Making charges in gold jewellry
Can some of the experts here please tell me what are reasonable making charges on gold jewellry. What percent of value should making charges be? more

In general it ranges 10% and even socalled reputed jewellers have also use fooling method of saying customer no making charges no wastage etc,. and offer free lunch/snacks to gullible/innocent public to sell substandard gold, just to quote one incident.. few years ago (before ISI standardisation compulsion) I bought necklace from one of reputed jewellery store in Bangalore (Neelkant Jewellers, Richmond road, blore-25) and checked the quality it says 78% not even 80% of purity and they insisit if they resell to them they will take it same rate sold earlier, but very substandard, so I felt cheated with brand name !!! likewise unless you are expert of little knowledge of the product you got cheated by the cheating traders !! more

No standards as it is skill of gold smith and can charge any amount like boutiques. you can negotiate and if any Jeweller promise for any deduction, then you can ask specific detail for their norms as per designs or otherwise. more

Making charges are not defined anywhere by any one and hence whatever the jewellers charge according to the trend of the centre could be said reasonable without choice. However, different rates are charged depending upon the designs of the ornaments, which may differ from place to place. more

Traditionally most families have their own goldsmiths. In modern urban life this relationship does not exist. Better shift to branded jewellery houses with whom give and take is simple with receipts. more
