The traders are not in general charging GST above MRP but the problem arises when anything is sold at discounted prices below the MRPs, in which cases they are charging GST in addition to the discounted prices ensuring that the total amounts do not exceed the MRPs. The Consumers Affairs Ministry needs to clarify the correct position in such cases and issue necessary guidelines/notifications to be compulsorily followed by all traders as also for the benefit of the consumers making necessary provisions for stringent actions against the traders found guilty of flouting government instructions. more

Government is spending more money for advertising GST for awareness, rates, chargeable items for the same. But so far it doesn't seen post GST menu cards in restaurants, GST free restaurants board on the wall of restaurants, GST chargeable food items board on Wall,... Next Shopkeeper, corporate market like big bazar, Mart etc GST chargeable items rate list display board must be installed in front of payment counters. And if no GST be charged above MRP on any items the concern government departments should clear their order if the GST included in the MRP then why the consumers have to bother with the issue of of GST. It has become routine of discussion among the people.All these things will be stopped. Some of the things that are surprised everyone the online ecommerce sites charging 18%GST on delivery charges of one item.... Banks are changing GST on normal charges, interest, loan, premium, prepayment charges of loans,and even on late fees or fine. Government should decide whether the GST be charged on petty or small amounts of loans which only the needy poors take? Best thing to do is to include the GST in MRP of all the packed items and be accountable. more

I also read about permission to sell goods with pre-GST sticker till Dec end. Obviously, pre-GST sticker includes taxes applicable at theat time. In that case there is no case for charging GST over the sticker rate. This point obviously was missed by ministry and traders are taking advantage. more
