Indian Diplomat Case and our Government

I am quite disappointed with the Indian diplomat's visa fraud (maid) case and how the Indian Government has handled everything.

In my view Devyani was wrong, plain wrong and the Indian Government has sided with the wrong just to make a point (an illogical one) to the US.

Instead they should have worked on something that was right and fought for it to tell US that we are both equal.

This is from a returned NRI who was born/brought up in India, lived in NY for many years and moved back to Delhi. more

THIS IS A VERY GOOD LESSON FOR WE ALL INDIANS. IT’S AN EYE OPENER. WE IN INDIA AS PER U.S. LAWS WILL HAVE TO UNDERGO THE SAME PUNISHMENT WHAT DEVYANI HAS HAD TO GO THROUGH? EACH ONE OF US ARE GUILTY OF MAKING OUR DOMESTIC HELP, WORK ILLEGAL HOURS OF WORK WITH NO PROPER FACILITIES. SEE THIS SHOCKING VIDEO HOW OUR INDIAN LADY DIPLOMAT WAS STRIP AND CAVITY SEARCHED. ARE WE LIVING IN A CIVILLISED WORLD OR ARE WE SAVAGES. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpsbUzmsQeM more
I agree with some here that US needs to reciprocate benefits that India grants to it but I totally agree with Anamika. Devyani was at fault. She was exploiting her staffer clearly as many Indians do in Ameirca. They still have the servant mentality. Devyani she is still full of stories. I am parted with my kids for ever. Give us a break. Have the family move with you to India. No big deal. Stay happy. After all you were sent to represent India. Because of her mistakes and her contacts, India has retaliated for no good reason. Now if US retaliates, Indian students/parents/entrepreneurs, India visa holders, folks seeking immigration will have unnecessary issues. more
I fully agree with Raja Chandra on the misuse by christian maids, why the maid did not come back if not satisfied, because they knew very well that 4000 dollars / Rs.2.5 lacs per month is so much a figure she cannot get ever in her life time nor she can ever hope to go to USA on her own but she saw green pasteurs in citizenship offered by the activists in the name of being underpaid labour. more
We, are not in a judgmental position here and we in no way approve the way she was arrested and handcuffed in public, she being in the Indian Embassy. Whether, she was subjected to any strip search, or cavity test or not, is a matter of doubt and debate since in the media and news papers, this has been denied by US authorities. I think, this is also known to Indians that she did not enjoy full diplomatic immunity as per international conventions, otherwise, why then the Indian Govt had to take action to transfer her to UN. Why the maid did not ask for being sent back to India - today we have read this news that she has made a statement that she be sent back, which was refused by Devyani. I also have personal experience in foreign countries how the diplomats treat their maids since while living abroad, we in our association and in social gatherings, came to know of such incidents, but the maids did not have enough support to take any legal action. It may be true that she took advantage of maid being a Christian and going to church and asking for help which I know that church people would have offered to provide her free legal and all other helps, and it was done in secrecy with the help of US embassy staff in India and this was done, then it is inability of Indian Govt to find it out and stop this practice going on in India by foreign diplomats. What we are trying to say is that if Devyani has done any thing wrong, she should have been tried in US since she did not have any diplomatic immunity as is now obvious. more
