Indian Customs - Clearance Corruption

I would like to open a discussion on the Indian Customs service - In particular the Delhi Customs

Firstly I had a horrific experience in 2003 with the Delhi Customs after attempting to pick up unaccompanied baggage. After having to wait till the next day when the customs office opened and paying for a hotel room my nightmare began. The customs officers wanted that I pay duty on my personal belongings which I foolishly estimated a price at what it would cost me to purchase new. After viewing signage all over the warehouse saying that corruption would not be tolerated and viewing a brochure that stated that second hand goods are duty free and eventually meeting the Superintendent - who happened to be the name on the signage of who was the overall in charge I ended up being forced to pay half of what they estimated I should pay.

Now I have an item waiting in customs to be cleared, that I bought via Ebay India and low and behold there is a hold up... There is no contact information provided on any website, even the phone numbers and emails addresses do not work so the only option is to take a taxi to Delhi and meet these reprobates and go through their procedure designed to extort money of customers.

Customs is another area that requires investigation and a thorough clean up. more

I too hot horrible experience a person from UK sent me gift seeing my address but he sent pounds too. Before I know about the gift he had already sent. I never asked or told to send illegally this money or anything. But the delhi customs asked to pay me 26700 for the parcel which i did somehow as I didn't have so much. Now they said there is a lot of cash in the parcel you have to pay fine I said why should I pay as I didn't knew about it and how come parcel came in india if it's illegal to get cash by parcel. It's not my fault she says I have to pay 96000 fine or she will call crime branch How disgusting I didnt receive the parcel and even after rejecting they keep my 26700 and put me in the list of crime. Shame on Indian customs I hate this more
sir, i have some problem in fake custom dept can i post u the message are your free i can call u please give me your mobile number..... more
Mumbai Customs not different. There are mountains of unclaimed goods lying all around and only after that visit I understood why the Customs hold regular auction of these unclaimed goods. The procedure begins with an official and his calculator arriving at an exorbitant sum that will start you shaking. If you want to go the "other" way you have to discuss the unofficial rate outside. In short you either bargain and give in to corruption or give up and tell them to keep it. more
Sir, This  is not with delhi customs  alone,  but is the same at Chennai customs also.I  personally feel this  cannot be stopped as  there  are ways and means to findfault  for customs  and  delay  the clearance  by making the customer  pay  demurragewarehouse charges etc. Ram From: Krsnacandra Dasa To: buvanabalan@yahoo.co.in Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2015 7:16 PM Subject: New resource "Indian Customs - Clearanc..." in [Connected Consumers - Empowered Consumers] more
Thank you Ashish Raj for your advice. As far as my position goes we are a small temple and do our best to serve here in the dham and do not have the means or time, due to seva and puja commitments, to travel to engage these people. It is a simple thing that could have been resolved with means to contact an official but alas their contact details are not functioning - whether on purpose or not... My main concern is to bring the situation to the attention of the public and hopefully the Government will be moved to take action to get them to provide a working system in order for such hold ups and avenues for bribery be staunched. more
