Inclusive of GST

Many of the retailers still seem to be charging GST on goods even when they give small discount.

Can dept of consumer affairs mandate that every packaged good should say "inclusive of gst"

Then the consumer will be empowered to stand up basis that label. Right now we have nothing. more

Matter is not clear.Whether retailer is suppose to charge G.S.T or not? Govt must make it clear. In the absense of clarity businessmen are going to charge GST. Clarification by Govt is the only solution. more
There should not be any ambiguity in price of any package which gives power to the seller to adjust the price. Price should be inclusive of all taxes and mentioned clearly that all axes are included. more
Hello Sarita, Your query is not clear. FYI, retailers are allowed to sell packaged goods at or below MRP, but not above MRP. As the taxes (GST or otherwise) are already included in the MRP, they cannot charge any additional tax or charges, over the selling price. If someone is collecting additional GST over the selling price or MRP (whichever is lower), then you should collect a signed and stamped Tax Invoice and bring it to the attention of the tax authorities in your area. Hope this helps. more
The MRP means "maximum Retial Price" and there is nothing wrong if the term is changed to "inclusive of GST". But whatsoever it may be, government has been showing favour towards the business community and aiming at increasing the Revenue through GST. They lack seriousness. more
This matter does not pertain to GST Council. In fact the matter pertains to Legal Metrology. MRP is always inclusive of taxes whether GST or VAT and as per rules the "inclusive of all taxes" need to be mentioned. Any violation need to be reported to the State Controller of Legal Metrology. Now coming back to the post, even the discounted price is also inclusive of taxes and that has been ruled by State Commission and National Commission. The complaint of charging taxes on discounted prices also need to be taken up with State Controller of Legal Metrology. Controller of Legal Metrology can prosecute the traders/retailers with penalty. Another disheartening factor is that we as consumers are reluctant to take up complaints involving pretty amounts and hence such large scale violations are continuing. Time has come when even complaints involving few rupees also need to be taken up else market exploitation would continue unchecked. more
