How to have a Green and Clean Diwali

Dear all:

Here are 3 practical tips for a Clean and Green Diwali:

1) Let us replace the electric lights by burning earthen lamps or diyas. The age old tradition is much better than the new trend of decorating homes with electric lights. No doubt, this consumes more oil but there will be less pollution as the duration of the diyas is shorter. Plus, it looks beautiful.

2) Nothing like completely staying away from crackers (some kids/schools have taken a No Crackers pledge this Diwali) but if you simply can't, please use crackers which produce less smoke and sound. Reduce the amount of purchase of fire crackers than you usually do. Try lighting noiseless crackers.

And please do make sure to clean that area the same day or very next day and throw the garbage in the allocated space.

3) Make rangolis using ingredients available in our homes and kitchen shelves like as rice powder for white, turmeric or pulses for yellow, sindoor for red, including fresh flowers.

By observing an environment friendly Green and Clean Diwali, please make your little contribution towards the environment as well as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

We wish you a Happy, Safe, Green and Clean Diwali!

There are small groups or societies comprising of friends, relatives, neighbors, land Lords tenants, workers or Employers. each group has diverse interest strength and resources. It will be multiplying the joys of the group if crackers or Fire-Works are exploded in the gathering. It will certainly increase the pleasure of people with lesser resources. Happy Diwali. more
Never pollute the air with crackers and water with diseased bodies and land with chemicals. more
Please look at it differently - Each family may be spending thousands of rupees on Crackers and other entertainment. If each family contributes a small percentage (each locality) of this expenditure and pool the fund, the fund could be spent wisely - feeding school children and contributing to their education. After all, they are our future. We wisely invest for our future. Could we think of their future as well. more
Had you spent the time used by you on this platform to educate some poor jhuggi dwellers.....? Felt BAD? .....you should ....because this is LECTURING! .... There are thousands of things that each one of us does - which are basically 'Useless' yet we do them .... better we do not lecture others ... the truth is - we ourselves do many such things. more
