Disclose manufacturing cost on packaged products

A RBI board member has suggested that companies must be required to disclose Manufacturing Cost in addition to MRP on packaged products.

What do people of this circle think about that?

What about Govt/legal metrology? How can this br implemented? more

Even I do not support this idea. But one thing can be done to reduce anti profiteering. To charge get (what ever the % of any particular category) from manufacturer on MRP not not their wholesale sales price to distributor or reseller. For example the wholesale or distributor selling price of manufacturer is RS 100 and GST % is 5% and MRP is 200 than manufacturer should pay 5% on MRP. This will force manufacturer to keep MRP with limited margin. Now a days MRP is 500 and discount is 60% for customers to attract them and doing anti profiteering. more
This is a Good idea.Manufacturing price should be indicated in addition to MRP.This will show other costs plus margin of profit. This is always a doubt point in the mind of consumer. more
No producer does indicate the manufacturing price on the product package, not should it be made mandatory. Consumer cannot be allowed to determine the margins of profit. Such a ruling would create a chaos in the production industry. more
I do not support this suggestion since this kills the basic motive for doing any business. The sale price is what the market can bear amidst a competitive environment and each participating company should aim to reduce their production cost for improving profitability. For edible products, the manufacturers must be ordered to publish the nutritional parameters without any comprise and/or shortcut (i.e. hiding bad numbers). more
Declaring manufacturing or assembling costs of goods and services under packaged commodities rules is a good old idea and at least I would support it, but it is a privileged privacy of the producers not to disclose. Yes, it will be a fair idea if ex-works/factory prices are declared at the first point of sales. The ex-works or factory price must also indicate the rate of taxes on sales applied or applicable. more
