Case Study - Clean Kanpur Initiative

Dear all:

Recently, an initiative called Clean Kanpur has been brought to our attention by one of our circle members - Shri Anil Gupta who is also the Founder of the initiative.

Clean Kanpur is a citizen initiative where Citizens come together and work on Cleanliness. First Sunday of every month is Clean Kanpur Day.

After transforming 12 Chaurahas (one every Sunday), Kanpurites on October 2nd created history by doing spot fixing at more than 300 locations simultaneously.

The Clean Kanpur initiative now plans to organize a Citizen Session with Administration and Nagar Nigam to finalize and demand implementation of an effective system in Kanpur. Also, they plan to invite 9 prominent citizens or organizations of Kanpur to join hands on this effort. These Nav-Ratnas will become the ambassadors of Clean Kanpur Initiative.

Such a citizen led initiative is an inspirational example for all and we congratulate Mr. Gupta.

We also suggest that members from other cities/constituencies also initiate something on the same lines and if assistance/information/know how is needed, please seek such information from this circle where members like Mr Gupta and several others can assist you.

Let us together drive a Swachh Bharat!

Dear Sir, I want to take your attention to a region of Kanpur city [from Kakadeo to Kalyanpur] ]which was considerably calm and clean few years back, but now it is heavily crowded (specially roads) and polluted due to inefficient planning and traffic management. If the actions are not taken on time, the situation will be even worse in future. I have few suggestions, please read: 1. A working railway track already available from Kanpur central region to Kalyanpur parallel running to the main road can be effectively used to tackle this traffic problem in a great way buy just running local train with multiple local stoppages. 2. On this Rail route, whatever railway crossings are already present needs to be made over or under-crossed. Suppose a there is a railway crossing 200m ahead, then a required width of road may slowly gets up or down side wise and crosses the the railway track in place of existing dangerous railway crossings. 3. This is a mutually beneficial project for the Railway & the Public. 4. Just a regional railway authorities and city municipal corporation can handle this small project of great importance. 5. This development activity will save the time, money, environment and public health. 6. Similar railway/ local train options can be employed/extended to other major routs ( like: Krishna Nagar - Kanpur central - Kalyanpur). Thank You! Vishnu more
Compliments to Kanpur initiative. I did watch youth take up 'Clean Delhi' the other day. There are model villages across the country as well. Emulating good practices is always beneficial to everyone. more
It is very encouraging to see that people from Kanpur are taking an inititative to clean up the city. I belong to kanpur and recently visited the city for diwali celebrations. One of the things that actually caught my attention was " Bhumi visarjan" of the puja material and idols of diwali celebration. It was indeed a good begining. However, there are some areas where we still need to focus are attention. I could think of three areas which can be taken up as immediate focus area: 1. Cleanliness of the railway station & tracks- Believe me it is really to tortueing to wait even for ten minutes on any platform other than platform no.1 2. Although the garbage collection process from homes is quite well estalished, garbage dumping is not properly institutionalized. Thus we end up having litter on the streets and are back to square one.3. Biomedical waste disposal is a big challenge. I would like others too to comment on the above and add to the list and hopefully ministery of urban development will take it into account more
Some initiative is required to impose fine for litering the garbage on public places more
