The restaurant Delhi Heights in the Sangam Complex (RK Puram) continues to levy Service Charge (see bill). On top of that they've openly hung a board at their entrance gate that they charge 10% Service (see photo). more

One thing is very clear, any amount of feed back to present Deaf-ear Govt is going to waste. No solution is expected. My advice to Circle, not to pay TIP IF CHARGED SERVICE CHARGE ON BILLS. This is to be circulated & create awareness to WHOLE OF INDIA. more

Restaurants should be allowed to charge a reasonable service charge. My experience has been that if this was not charged i would be giving a much larger amount as a tip! more

The Law does not state that Restaurants cannot charge service charge. All over the world Restaurant charge service charge from 10% to 20 %. In India if left to customers they do not leave even 1% as Tip or Gratuity for staff. This results in poor service and can be seen where service charge is not applicable compared to restaurants who charge service charge. The customer who do not value good service can refuse to pay and get away, but please let others who value good service enjoy their food experience. more

Law does not say not to charge but it also does not say to charge. Tip is optional but making it a part of bill is compulsion.
The price of each item includes service cost also along with raw material and making charges. Why service charge separately other than service tax.
It is encouraging undue extra income. Many are in the habit of giving tips even for free service. They pay at air filling at petrol pumps,gas cylinder delivery and post man/ courier boys etc. They are paid for that service, why extra. are we not encouraging them to expect free additional income which is unaccounted.
Some may argue that these are small amounts. But small or big, undue is undue only. more

By openly declaring that we levy 10% Service Charge they are giving an opportunity to customers to take a considered decision whether to visit the Restaurant or not. There is no law regarding Service Charge at present. There is an advantage also as you do not have to decide how much to tip? more
