APPLICATION TO CONVERT PIO TO OCI

Pls see this email sent to Indian High comm, Singapore. It is self explanatory:

Subject: APPLICATION TO CONVERT PIO TO OCI
To: hc.singapore@mea.gov.in

Dear Ms.Vijay Thakur Singh, High Commissioner of India, Singapore.
Ji, Good day to you.

RE: PIO TO OCI APPLICATION.

I came to your department yesterday to submit APPLICATION of the above.
The counter girl & officer asked me to show Original passport & OCI.
I said I did not bring Originals as the INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION, CLAUSE 13, says that I am to bring AT TIME OF COLLECTION.
The officer showed me some other clause on his computer.
I said I followed the instr which came with the on-line application forms & thus need not have to roam other areas in the web-site.
I showed him the Application Instr printout.
Apparently the instructions in your site seems to differ from the application thus causing this inconvenience.

I also requested the office to take my forms and I will present the originals at time of COLLECTION.
He refused.
Instead he said that APPLICATION & SUBMISSION are 2 different things? Ha? How is that so?

CHECKING OF FORMS IF IN ORDER:
ALSO they refused to check the application forms for any errors, so now if I come with one more mistake- I am done-back to home.

We Seniors are not so computer savy and it was already a struggle to fill the on-line forms, with pdf file, etc.
Please have some consideration for seniors.
It took me over an hour to reach, then walk in the heat from bus stop to embassy.

fyi - When I applied for my Singapore passport renewal, I had forgotten to bring my I.D.
They said to present it before collection of passport. Simple and elder friendly.

Please do discuss this with your officers and please do not simply say "CANNOT" & pack us home.
Please be somewhat understanding & elder friendly. more

I agree with you, there are many who are good, helpful and understanding. I have a lot of friends in India who helped me a lot. I think I can understand the frustration of the staff in Missions- they high commissioner driving in Mercedes and nice posh office/home but the staff still using 1920-1950 furniture & still old style of work environment, so they get frustrated. You know when the embassy is closed for lunch, we are not allowed to enter the open space outside the office. We have to stand in the hot sun/rain on the main road untill the main gate is opened. I can go on and on Bi more
anyway we will die faster, trying to explain or correct the system. I got their reply- again telling me to refer to website and saying Application is different from Submission? That officer had a heavy Indian accent & was from South. Just laugh out loud. I forgot to mention: OCI means Overseas Citizen of India". How do I qualify for that? I am a Singapore citizen and not allowed dual citizen. I as born in India but at the age of 6 months, my mother took me back to Singapore. I only had a Birth Cert and no passport or citizen cert. There are many children born outside India and the Govt is Issuing OCI to them. PIO I can understand is the right word. Have a good day more
They ought to have been accommodative. I don't know who these officials are? They must be promotees from ranks. When I was flying from San Francisco via Singapore to Hyderabad, by Singapore Airlines I lost my passport in Hong Kong. When I landed, I could not trace my Passport with Valid visas for several countries; One Mr. Natarajan helped me a lot, within no time. I too request the High Commissioner to post good officers, who are helpful and accommodative to Indian Citizens. Government of India should have asked all Indians, simply to exchange PIO cards, over the counter, OCIs, since all our particulars are available with them. Anyhow follow what they say, no choice for us. Best of Luck, sir. more
