Traffic Police in Mumbai are much better as compared to other cities in Maharashtra and rest of India. However they need to be trained inTime of Day traffic management. They should give priority to buses over other vehicles.
Unless we remove corruption and police must by their presence be a deterrent we will have the same mess we have irrespective of the political hue in power
Traffic Police all over India - including Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur - do a very shoddy job of enforcing rules. Unruly drivers - especially bikers and autorickshaws - are creating chaos by breaking every traffic rule with no fear as the police only stands and watches mutely.

The police seem to only understand red light violations, and have an obsession for helmetless drivers. The latter are a danger only to themselves, but unruly drivers who drive on the wrong side of the road and on pavements are a danger to everyone. You can see them on every road and highway in India - only the police pretend not to see them, and behave as if none of this is happening.

It is very easy to let the police off the hook by ascribing reasons like 'lack of morale' / 'low pay' etc - there is no end to the excuses. But the truth is that they are badly trained, have no clear idea of what is right and wrong and violate the rules themselves. To cap it all, they do not enforce most rules. I have personally sent photos of police violating traffic rules to the Commissioner of Police - including tweets - but they do nothing. They only talk big about 'Traffic Safety Week' with Amitabh Bachan etc. - but no action is taken against the hooligans who're pushing & shoving themselves through & around the traffic with no consideration for others.

Police vehicles, BEST buses and Govt vehicles are completely immune from prosecution - they do what they please with immunity and impunity.

Nothing is going to change till we feel outrage - and demand action against policemen who don't take action. The guilty and wilfully negligent police should be fined double of the normal fine so that they themselves are first disciplined and trained.

India has the worst drivers in the world - and also one of the highest accident rates.
My rating for the Traffic Police is 'Zero'.

disgusting...................... but the reasons are many. and most of us are responsible for it. Be it hawkers, taxis, autos, the police, and many more. But last but not the least......... the third rated ROADS. and its our BMC only that is to blame. they have their favourite contractors and agents who greese the palms of the concerned persons and keep getting the contracts
