Reason:
1.Poor maintenance of sewer/strom lines by KMC
2.Logging of rain water
3. Low quality of tar and improper size of pebbles in preparing of metal road
4.Corruption on the part of road maintenance contractor and KMC officials
5. Lackadaisical attitude on the part of state government.

Roads in Kolkata are not good but the present government is trying to improve - let us hope for the best.

Surfacing is as bad as ever. As an engineer and working in a heavy engineering company which made, heavy steel plant cranes & equipment, mining machines, bridges, dams and all kinds of road making machinery. I am really surprized the way the road surface is totally made contrary to all norms resulting in fast peeling off of the surface, potholes etc. Even filling up of pot holes are also done not according to road engineering norms. the hemispherical whols are just filled up without vertically cutting the edges resulting in the whole patching to slide out when heavy vehicles pass over them. This results in repeated repair of the same places spendin tax payers' money. I don't know whether it is ignorance on the part of the civic body engineers or some people gain out of repeated repairs.
The only thing that has improved after the previous state government was removed after 34 years of misrule - is the roads are at least much more clean than before, this is undeniable.
For the caos and traffice snarls and road mishaps - the citizens, drivers, jaywalkers are too be blamed more than the traffic police.

once a road or foot path is broken by electric or telephone it is not repaired even upto months

The Road Condition In kolkata is getting worse day by day specially in Rainy season. I know pressure/ loads on Roads are heavy .Day & Night Public Vehicals, Heavy loaded Trucks, Construction Vehicals etc are moving on the Roads. so Road are getting damage Quickly inspite of maintains (patch work). Of course few Roads are very Good like Red Road,Park street,BBD Bag area, Stand Road and its sorroundings areas. Diamond Harbour Road are worst. These days habits of Drivers, bikers etc to drive very fast with continues Horn, even they do not care for School Childrens, old people walking on the Roads, Hospitals area, School/collage area etc. People needs good Roads, wide Roads so that peace can prevail. Sound pollution these days is a big problems. Acts & Law is there for sound poolution (thrust hold limit of db) but no body care. com ing back to Roads conditions- As Example MOTILAL GUPTA ROAD where i stay , is very worst, big holes have devloped. No repairing take places for last 1 yrs. Accidents are occuring. I know VIIPS are going through these Road, specially KMC ,Mayor.
I know Money is a constrained factor. still if KMC wants & give a deep thought about M.L Gupta Road , i will be highly obliged.
