Water Shortage in Nodia

My husband was at a semina yesterday and some retired Bureaucrat who was there said ground water levels in Noida, Greater Noida
are depleting at the rate of 2-3 metres per year and ponds in parts of western up have been reduced to 30% of what they were 10 years ago.

My question is who within the Govt is the owner of this issue. Is it Noida Authority or DM or CM UP. Why are residents not made aware on such issues? more

Twelve years ago, when we constructed our bungalow, we created two water harvesting wells, 4 ft dia and 14 ft deep. We inspected and cleaned both 4 years ago. Both function extremely well. All the rain water that falls on the surface area of our 350 sg m plot, goes into the porous wells. Torrential rains - no problems. ....... We consulted Central Ground water authority in jamnagar house and they gave us (in writing) plans that were, in my opinion, not feasible as they couldnt have been successful. This works ... but can only bring limited results. It is not the solution to our water woes. We do need our rivers to be gushing again with pure and natural water. Or else, prepare ourselves to brave the consequential sufferings. more
Rain water harvesting that should be mandated in UP. It is effective; and appears to be the only means of raising ground water level. We owe this to ourselves; as also future generations. more
All three:DM, Noida Authority/Administration, CM (UP), SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE, Dr C P Saksena more
The District Collector in every state is the point of contact for the Central Ground Water Board. The Collector has the powers to implement the suggestions or corrective measures provided by the Central Ground Water Board. more
In response to the Model Bill, so far, 11 states and four union territories (UTs) have adopted and implemented ground water legislation. These are: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Telangana, Maharashtra, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Further, the Central Ground Water Authority issued advisory to Chief Secretaries of all states and UTs to take necessary measures for adopting rainwater harvesting in all government buildings. So far, 30 states and UTs have made rain water harvesting mandatory through laws, rules and regulations and including provisions in building bye-laws.
