Water Quality in Noida
Hi, Can anyone suggest if fixing a water softener in Noida is successful or waste of money. This water quality is dangerous and there are many mixed reviews on softener quality and success rate online.

I think many people are confused with the usage of softener. Softener is a salt based treatment to convert hard water in soft which makes it better for taking batch and washing cloths. This water is not drinkable. You must use RO system for converting supply/ground water healthy for drinking. Just using Candle filtering is not sufficient because many harmful soluble impurities will still remain like lead, arsenic etc which are too dangerous for our health in long term and even cause of cancer, kidney diseases etc. PLEASE DONT use Commercial RO to convert hard water for usage of washing and bathing, as it waste around 70% water and not good for environment. more

These salt based softeners are good to make soft water but their service etc is too cumbersome. more

agree.. RO is a small unit what people usually fix inside kitchen for drinking purpose. However my ask was about the Softener which is usually fixed next to water tank to soften the hardness of the water to avoid skin allergies and bad quality hair. more

Bajaj Sahib I am a Naturopath and since 1993 I am drinking noida water without the use of any softener. I have used only simple candle filters which removes only suspended particle in water. I and my family have faced no problem. Benefit I can see that my system do not get upset with water of any other place outside Noida more

The water quality is really very bad both in terms of hardness and suspended particles. I had tried many things like filters, filtration systems and softeners, but nothing worked or could solve my problem of clean water to my satisfaction. However then I tried with commercial R O system. Now I feel totally satisfied and my bathroom fittings have been showing signs of regaining their lost shine. I think this is the only solution for good and clean water in noida and elsewhere. more

Water supply in Noida is really bad having coloured appearance like Coke/Pepsi with Rust particles. Pl suggest good softener to deal with this menace. more

Yes it is successful and highly needed. Many residential societies have installed softener plant at main tank, please remember that only salt based softener plant are useful and the one required by you needs to be assessed by the company supplying based in usage etc. It requires regular but easy maintenance and addition of salt. more

Before installing any water treatment equipment, get your water tested first as per IS:10500 'Drinking Water Standards'. Water softener (Cation-Na+ resin based needing common salt for recharge) works if the free chlorine in inlet water is NIL (use Activated Carbon Filter before a softener for municpal water which will have chlorine residual) and Total Dissolved Solids in water shall be below 1200 mg/l. Anyway, NGT does not allow borewells in private properties in Noida and Municipal Water Quality has improved tremedously since mixing of Ganga water with rainy wells in various sectors. You may pick up the issue with NOIDA Authroities/Jal deptt wrt water quality meeting IS:10500 norms which is mandatory. Do not try a centralized RO which will burn a whole in your pocket and is also an environmental disaster. We live in a smart city and have every right to get minimum potable water @135 lit/capita/day though sarkari piped water lines. more
