Toll Corruption
Corruption in toll plaza is enormous. Despite the repeted request from the truck unions and their proposal to deposit the total toll amount collected in a year in advance, govt has not agreed to abolish the toll system. There are two basic assumptions in it:
1. All the toll plaza in the country are either linked directly or indirectly with politicians or top bureaucrates. Abolishment will badly affect the regular income which is reserved for their future.
2. The total toll collection shown on the documents is too low. Actual toll collected is very high in amount and here is the point of corruption.
The roads are seldom repaired by the toll collection agencies and the very purpose is lost.
Way forward:
1. Govt should put a commission or CBI to check the selected tolls with actual/reported.
2. Abolish the toll system just for one year. The amount will be deposited by the truck unions and govt will not be at any loss. It is believed that country will save 10 fold money on fuel, environment will be better and system will be more efficient. Jamming will be very less, less waiting time, savings on millions of man hours (incl traffic police) which can be used in other productive work. more

More than the Toll collected the quantity of fuel burnt and the man hours lost of motorist and truck crew will be more. But who cares for your suggestions the Politicians are more interested in their HAFTA from Toll collectors. more

Despite toll roads, the conditions of some of the toll road is pathetic. Take example of Delhi Jaipur Road OR Jalandhar Panipat Road. On both the Toll roads, operator collecting toll despite the work is not completed. more

In my view, toll operator are maintaining two books. One which they want to show the toll receipt in their books and others the actual toll receipt which they do not show. This way the toll operator always shows no profit or very less profit to get more benefit from govt like increase in toll rate more
