Sub-conjunctival hemorrhage
The red eye condition occurs when a blood vessel ruptures underneath the conjunctiva - the clear membrane that lines the cornea and sclera as well as the inner surface of the eyelids. Subconjunctival hemorrhage often occurs with no warning. Patients frequently wake up and don’t even realize there is a problem until they look in a mirror. A subconjunctival hemorrhage is usually harmless, rarely painful, and will heal within around two weeks. As a precautionary measure, however, and to make sure that the inside of the eye is normal, a visit to your eye doctor is advisable, says Dr. Maneesh Kumar of Ophthacare Eye Centre.
