Small is beautiful
Gone are the days when `big’, `bigger’, and `is this the biggest frame available?’ was the norm. The consumer didn’t have the slightest inkling, and the dispenser didn’t care to tell him/her (lest he loses the customer) that it was the tiny spot usually in the centre of the lens (and not the entire lens surface) that is responsible for providing the clearest and most comfortable vision.
Today’s frames are more realistic in terms of sizes, shapes, colour, and material.
However, not everything was bad in good old days. While today, one’s address comprises of name, institution, number, street, city, and postal code, in 1959-’61 (when I was an optometry student Gandhi Eye Hospital School of Optometry Aligarh, and stood first in exam conducted by the U.P. State Medical Faculty Lucknow), my address used to be: Narendra, Optometry, Aligarh.
Isn’t small (the right size) beautiful?
