Sitting too close to the TV..

My kids keep sitting very close to the TV while watching. I am assuming this would be bad for their eyes. What should be the minimum distance between the TV and their eyes to not have any negative impact on their eyes? more

Thank you everyone for the fantastic responses. I guess I need to be on top of it.. They don't watch a lot of TV thankfully but when they do, i will pull them away from the TV. more

Proper distance to sit from the TV is five times the width of the TV screen. Watch TV from a distance where you can comfortably read the text on the screen without squinting. Lighting in the TV room is very important. Some people like the room bright, others like it dark. Watch TV in a room that has daylight conditions. The room too dark or too bright would force the eyes to strain to see the image. Don't watch TV with sunglasses on. A light behind the TV screen is always better for viewing... more
