Self help groups - how to improve the receipts
I wish to bring to the knowledge of all concerned how a particular self group had increased its receipts. This self help group is called DWACRA ladies group. It consisted 25 lady agriculture labor. This group had specialized the weeding out process. It used to work from 12 noon to 5 p.m. daily on contract basis i.e. weeding out operations on acre basis. We employed this group for weeding out works as per agreed terms. At the end instead of handing over the full amounts, about 75% was deposited in their group bank account. The State Government used to make matching contribution. Thus at the end of each year they used to get 175% of their normal earnings.
The Central Government might encourage similar practices by all self help groups - implementing the payments from out of Food for Work / minimum work guarantee schemes. more

Dear Vara Prasad ji. Nice to see your write up on SHG experience. I have about 20 years experience in SHG sector in NABARD, RMK-GOI and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. I fully agree on the concept of a part f wages in the SHG corpus, but do not support the government putting in matching contribution. This perpetuates subsidy culture and makes then dependent right from beginning. They should be trained to stand on their own which will make then acquire greater self confidence. The SHGs should of curse be provided free business training and exposure to skills and opportunities. They will his way will become self dependent. I have seen lacs of SHGs coming up and becoming stable and growth oriented and self driven. Subsidy in any form should only be for the destitute facing hunger and disease and requiring immediate help. Hope to keep in touch with you and share strategic thoughts o SHGs. Regards. more

It is already in practice in A.P but it is slighly different. Your suggestion is good by giving proper way of gaurantee to get finance/income Govt of A.P & Telangana are trying to waive off loans of Dwacra Sangham (Ladies groups) as per thier Election Manifisto All States are to review and help women who are in below poverty level with hel of Central Govt.
