Selection of MDs at PSUs

Can someone explain to me how selection of PSUs MD/CEO works. Are there heavy bribes involved in such a process. The 2-3 that me and my husband have seen seem to be biased. Any insight would be great. more

Like all the posts (with exceptions) of Police SHOs in Delhi are auctioned, similarly the posts of Directors and CMDs in PSUs are no exceptions. Most of the Board level executives who are appointed have committed serious white collar crimes to favour the bureaucrats and their minister. In order to shower favours the board level executives will scout for such officers in the particular PSU who can carry out the illegal acts on verbal instructions. No officer will dare to expose the fraud fearing (i) his rating in the Annual Appraisal Report (AAR) may be downgraded without any communication (ii) The bench mark for promotion may be fixed for a Departmental Promotion in such a way that the officer who has exposed /downgraded cannot be promoted, thereby getting his career ruined. If the case gets exposed, then the CMD will shelter him. Even if a departmental inquiry is conducted, the inquiry officer appointed by CMD is such who will give a report to the taste of the CMD, based on which the delinquent official will be exonerated. The CMD is happy to have kept those who are in power happy, to have defended the delinquent officer who will get an outstanding rating in the AAR and get fast promotions with support of the system. CVC is simply acting as a post office. Such delinquent officials will apply for Board level and engage someone (Industrial House) to pay on their behalf to powers that be. After appointment to Board level the said appointee will favour the party who paid on his behalf for appointment to Board level. In case any further interaction is needed I will be glad to throw more light. This is a very dark area which has not been talked about. It is better to share some actual cases. If required I can give specific cases. take a sample size of 50 such CEOs of PSUs , take their interviews and analyse their handwritings and then we can say something tangible......about them and the pressures of the system to take bribes, these are the unwritten laws of working... more
With talent only, one can never make it to the Board level, it's all about political connection plus money.. more
Absolutely correct. I took VRS as Sr.Marketing Officer in 2002 in a government of India undertaking because I was harrassed to took bribes and share it to with higher ups. The posts of CMD/MD is meant to favour their candidates to took advantge to adjust Minister's relatives, to pass bogus bills of their constitutency travel agency, which he has spent at the time of elections etc. If some one is honest he could not live properly more
