Saving Water (Toilets, Bath, Kitchen)

Mumbai and navi mumbai and Thane receives heavy rainfall during monsoon but most of the sweet water runs of and flows into sea and becomes sea water which is wasted. No one has made any efforts to retrieve this water which flows into sea and put this water for productive use. Most of the rain water falling on roof top of all buildings can be harvested and stored in separate tanks at ground floor and roof. separate network of storage tanks , water pipelines and pumps to be constructed and laid in each society and complex inMumabi Navi Mumabi Thane.

The rain water collected and stored during mansoon months can be used in toilets and for washing floors in commercial residential buildings.

The Government should make it mandatory for all buildings complexes to have full fledge rain water harvesting system and keep it operating condition. Government to give some incentive for this purpose. All out efforts to be made by all sections to preserve conserve and productively effectively use the precious resource which is getting wasted.

A movement should be started by some NGO for rain water harvesting, in cities and villages. Some of the NGOs and Government of India have made plan to connect rivers for solving the water scarcity problem. But I feel we all should focus on rain water harvesting in a big way. more

I understand that most of the households at Dwarka(Gujarat) used to harvest rain water and store in underground tanks for use it through a year. My information dates the year 1990 and back. Such water (in local term 'meetha pani') was used as drinking water also. Water from most of other sources (all?) other sources was brackish and ,hence, not fit for drinking. more
Good suggestion. Navi Mumbai municipal carporation do have many gardens, such project is done at the level of NMMC, these gardens can use shuch stored water. Such stored water is being used for toilets in mumbai,so that municipal supplied tap water is saved. This is possible in towers where land is available around the buildings. more
Prakash, it’s a good social cause. But, how? We do have a solution to save this natural resource : water, by over 50% at a very minimal cost. Let me know pls your contact number and email id, to forward you its details. Thanks for starting campaign to conserve rain water in each society and use for in its Toilets I agree that this very feasible suggestion and People must adopt. Its cost will be partially-if not fully, met by reduction in water bill. I would suggest that Society can further make collection arrangement of Bath Room used water and divert that same tank where in rain water is stored and used for toilets. Thereby water requirement for toilets will be fully met in each society. This will save about 50% water intake in the society and according water bill will be halved. Firstly we should reduce the wastage of water for car wash & other domestic matters wherever it is possible. Flow of rain water into seabed is also equally important for controlling the salinity is sea water for the survival of the marine life. A doctor turned researcher from Gujarat has developed a liquid soap which saves water up to 40% used for clothe washing. But sale of this useful product is very dismal as he doesn't have funds for advertisements. Who so ever is interest in trying this soap may write to me . Thanks more
This stored water quantity will be enough only for drinking requirements. We can safely use this water throughout the year. We only need to boil it before using it. But people don't want to use it as it's not FRESH. more
now a days recycled water also is used for toilets,we must thinkin those lines too when we harvest 'water' more
