Revamp in mind, AAP takes to ‘samwad’ with corporate world

Soon most corporates may have nothing to say as Modi Govt will be addressing most of their needs. They may treat AAP like yet another NGO associated with cause of corruption.....AAP needs a rethink about its identity and its market according to me.

Mumbai : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) looks to be on a road to revamp its core organisational and strategic structure as it conducted a daylong seminar in the city on Sunday focussing on gathering suggestions from wide spectrums of the society ranging from psephologists to corporates and image consultants.

The seminar served to be similar to a SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Targets) evaluation for the nascent party which is looking forward to the elections in the national capital where it tasted a short lived success.

Divided into three segments, the seminar titled ‘AAP Samwad’ focussed on the relevance of AAP in India’s current political scenario and its way forward. The seminar started out with a review of the current political trends in the national political playground, with a focus on re-emergence of national parties and the need for an alternative.

A number of political and academic experts such as Mumbai University professor Surendra Jondhale, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, newspaper editor Sunderchand Thakur and literary figure Uday Thakur took part in the session and discussed the issues in detail.

A major part of the second session was devoted to revamping the brand ‘Aam Aadmi’ and was participated in by corporate and image consulting experts such as senior brand consultant Anirbhan Das, filmmaker Bharat Dhabolkar and Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar. The session focussed on the present realities in context to the party.

Outlining the need for propaganda revamp, Anirbhan Das said, “One of the strengths of the AAP is that it is composed of the creamy layer of the country’s intellectuals and its members have a more sound understanding of the present issues facing the country than most politicians currently in power. However, if the party’s propaganda is to reach the grassroots it needs to be more simpler so that the agenda can reach the layman.”

Bharat Dhabolkar, on the other hand, expressed, “what the party needs is a stronger and multi-level leadership with identifiable faces in each state body. AAP further needs to take some time off to build itself an iconic image that is capable of tackling the Modi wave.”

Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar further reiterated the need for a stronger ground force and said “the party’s need of the hour is to reorganise and build itself.” Alluding to freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak’s life, he added “when Tilak faced bullying in school, he skipped a year and went to the gym to build his body so he can rid himself of the fear of bullies. AAP currently needs the same,” he contended.

Later in the day, a number of influential figures from the state participated in the third session which concentrated on the present political scenario in Maharashtra.

A number eminent speakers including senior economist Ajit Ranade, journalist Nikhil Wagle, actor/filmmaker Paresh Mekashi participated in the session.

The seminar conducted at the campus of a city college on Worli Seaface drew an audience of 400 strong, a majority of whom were AAP party’s local cadre and its supporters. more

BJP who are trying to work and improve the system? Really? no one wants to listen anything against BJP? Who is this no one? @ Gopal Goel ji: Seems the statements require some ground reality. With every new day, BJP is getting worse. All polish is washed away. Nothing good has been felt since this Govt. Failure of BJP will be clearly visible in Delhi elections result. more
It is good to see intellectual support to AAP. This will surely help in providing an effective roadmap to cleanse the politics of the country. But this is not enough to convert that into votes which count in democracy. This will require to be with and go to the voters and give them hope of clean administration and brighter future for them and India . And this can only be possible in the hands of honest, efficient and people friendly Party which will give a Govt. of the People, for the People and by the People. more
Gopalji, I only partly agree with you. The area of agreement being that BJP still enjoys formidable public support, and Modiji even more. This is despite having slipped a little from its earlier pedestal of complete unassailable position, as bye election results go to show. The PM's road map appears to be to spend big, in a tight time frame, in that way create jobs and further consolidate support and rule long term, facing little or no opposition. For a resounding success of such an economic game plan there is heavy dependance on the govt machinery. That's where the worry lies, as the bureaucracy does not have a good track record in either efficiency or honesty! Probably the BJP strategist realize this that is why a parallel strategy seems to be at work, that of polarizing the voters by raising issues as "love jihad" etc. to function as a second line of defense. In this period a growing realization that a strong opposition is also important, has emerged, which will become louder as time passes. This is the space that AAP should aim to occupy, which it can never do if it cozy up with BJP. Besides, AAP is not about being politically clever and stitch up alliances with this one or that one to form govts. It stands for public service and corruption free India. If the BJP can provide that, as you believe, then there is no need for AAP, as it would have served its utility to the society. But if BJP flounders then AAP, not Congress, should be the replacement. The news from Mumbai is heartening. We need to quietly build up the party at strategic locations. After Mumbai it may be Bangaluru. more
Why does that AAP does not understand that they won the vote of confidence of being against corrupt congress govt. They can never think of opposing BJP who are trying to work and improve the system . If elections are really there they stand to loose all the seats like in for lok Sabha. Today no one wants to listen any thing against BJP. All of you being honest is no replacement of being efficient. If you are against corruption then be agaist Congress otherwise you may loose all support what ever you have left with. Nice to find the information to energise the party at other corners of the country. Rightly citing the simile with great freedom fighter Likmanya Tilak's life, the party has to be strong to rebut the bullying tactics by BJP, specially by inducting in more quantum of memebership and sensitising them unremittingly for good causes of the nation. Thanks for such elaborate information. more
