Relevant LC report on GST reductions translating into lower MRPs

Very relevant report by LC Manager which says that public has little confidence on manufacturers lowering MRPs which means distributors and retailers will charge what they feel like on existing stock and will charge the new stock with revised MRP.

No consumer will take the pain to file a consumer court complaint. No one has time energy for it which means both the law and enforcement dont work.

LC should get Govt to take unfair trade practice action against those who violate the law regukarly. more

In the interim, there will be some profiteering as old stock with already marked prices won't change. However, FMCG product prices should start correcting within a quarter, i.e. by year-end. There may be a pack-size refitment or MRP change as well. I think the focus must not be to short-change anyone and share the benefits where due. more
I don't think benefits of reduction in GST will be extended to the customers/citizens. companies are very clever, and they will increase the base price by saying that manufacturing cost has increased and we were in loss due to the high GST. Now we are able to bring it with some profit margins. Paneer is sold at more than Rs500-600 per kilogram by companies. We have to see what the new prices of the items after the implementation of the new GSt rates will be. more
Government hs permittef the retailers to paste a new reduced MRP sticker without obliteraing the earlier one on the stocks held on the datebof change which is 22nd Sept. I am sure this will help consumers to judge themselves the reduction in MRP. Let us now see how these instructions work out in practice. more
ONE SHOULD LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE, AND MUST HAVE BROADER PERSPECTIVE. DOESN'T MATTER IF RETAILER WILL CHARGE ARBITRARILY. WE ALL KNOW THAT THIS WILL LAST THE OLD STOCK IS AVAILABLE IN MARKET, THAT SHOULD EXHAUST PROBABLY IN 3-4 MONTHS. AFTER THAT CONSUMER WILL THE REVISED RATES. TILL THEN CONSUMER WILL PAY WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN PAYING . more
Gst at lower rate will be effective from the Central government's announcement as effective date.not from the date of Bill presented before parliament.thus the lowered rate of gst will be effective from such announcement date.all the gst goods manufacturered earlier to such announced date will come in to Market with earlier rate of duty and sold accordingly. 2) while sending complaints to consumer Court or anti proffiting agencies, this may be noted. more
