Please avoid refrigerators without any star ratings. Analyse advantage in cost saving in electric saving by various star ratings and interest on additional cost to be incurred in purchase of refrigerators in various star ratings from 1 to 5. Avoid purchasing fridges whose companies do not provide direct services in your area. Also ask whether they will repair defective populated PCBs or replace the same in case of fault. more

There is a fellow consumer organisation, VOICE, that does comparative testing of goods and publishes the same in their journal Consumer Voice. I remember they also conducted tests on branded refrigerators. I suggest your writing to them or contacting them online if they have conducted tests on the branded refrigerators in recent times. You may access their website for the information. VOICE is located in Delhi. Mind it, the technologies change quite fast these days and the competition in this market is also forcing the manufacturers to added values more frequently. more

All multinational brand including Samsung, LG etc. Please check for after sales service in your area. All manufacturers particularly MNCs have many parts, components and sub-assemblies not available in open market. The prices of these components and sub-assemblies are jacked up to 20 times of their actual cost. Thus in one service after warranty period, many times overall repairing cost from these companies or their authorized service centers may be more than the sale-able price of out of warranty fridge. Instead of repairing their cards, they simply change the cards on a overwhelming price. Many times few parts, components and sub-assemblies are not available with companies for replacement and customers have to wait for few days. more
