Railway Fares Hike was much needed and pending - RIGHT MOVE

The railway fares hike is the right move. Congress did not have the guts to increase because of elections (otherwise they would have gotten 22 instead of 44 seats).

To convert railways from a loss making to a profit entity and to clean up our dirty looking platforms and to boost railway security, money is needed. The Government' shouldn't take loans and take the country further into deficit.

Only a bold leader like Modi ji could have done this. I fully support it.

Now, we need to ensure we hold Modi ji and the Railways Minister accountable for results.

As collective group of citizens and taxpayers, it will be our job and right to do that. more

I do not think corruption is the only impediment in generation of revenues asopined by Mr. Subhankar Mukherjee. The last ten years the increase in fares if any has been marginal not even sufficient to cover the inflationary rise in prices. Added to the fact that many new trains were introduced and the aging rolling stock has not been replaced or modernised. Now everyone wants improvement from the railways right from clean platforms to cleaner toilets and other facilities all of which requires money. The hike is therefore essential no doubt it is going to create inflationary pressures. But a sizeable trading community has already switched over to Road Transport so the effect is going to be minimal. more
I agree with Mr. Bose. For reservation there must be system that autocratically RAC and thereafter waiting list by serial no. be upgraded which will stop harassment to commuters. more
Corruption has been completely overlooked. If corruption can be controlled I am sure fares need not be raised. I once again say that freight fare should not be raised as this will add to inflation. Inflation will be difficult to control as we are going to face insufficient monsoon more
Corruption is a big issue - critical levels - Lack of availability of accomodation forces people to use evil practices. - Increase the Number of Special trains - conceptualized recently - to provide accomodation at market price. - Enforce cleanliness through third party - strict vigil necessary. - Reduce mal practices through use of technology. more
