Power cuts in Delhi

Dear Kanta ji, I agree with you to some extent as there is no use in blaming others, rather we must suggest solutions to tackle various problems. I had opportunity to get associated with U.P. in distribution business. Situation in U.P. is worse than Delhi. The break downs are bound to happen due to faulty political systems. I explain with an example. Assume that a locality was having electrical connections sufficing 10KVA transformer load, 10 years ago. Over the years, our standard of living has increased and we have started using gadgets like AC etc. Naturally this will increase the load and 10KVA transformer installed 10 years ago will get over loaded now, causing break downs. Regulatory Boards are created in Electricity Act 2003 to monitor upgradation of electric network systems and make DISCOMS to maintain health of networks. Delhi's DERC has failed to force Delhi DISCOMS to get the needful done in time. May be due to political interference, as all system upgradations require funds, thereby increasing tarriff effecting public. All governments do not want to buy public wrath by increasing electricity tariff and do not allocate sufficient funds for network upgradation. This is what has happened in Delhi. Delhi netwrok was not adequately upgraded.
Let us now wait and watch how Mr. Piyush Goyal get the network upgraded keeping the tariff low.
Kanta ji, you are a better economist being a C.A. Please correct me if my analysis is wrong. Regards. more

Ramesh Gupta ji, you are absolutely correct. New Govt is abide to provide maximum benefit to corporate houses ie Ambani brothers and other electricity providing companies. Otherwise there is no shortage of anything ie supply of power as well as transmission lines/transformers. Take an example of 10 Feb 2014 when all companies denied to supply power to Delhi and thereafter agreed to follow all conditions on fear of cancellation of contract by AAP Govt at Delhi. So this crises is totally artificial to increase the tariff rates. more
Dear Ramesh Ji, Your explanation is upto some extent acceptable, but the problem is, if we do not have any powercut last year with the same sysytem why this year same is happening. this may be arm twisting tactice of DISCOMS to force government for higher tarif, as you was involve in the whole process you may comment better.... more
