Pink Slip for Advani and Joshi

Hope it is a good thing. I am mixed though right now. Not enough confidence that the newly constituted team has it. They may know how to win election but is that it?? Do they have the values, the understanding of India. Everyone share views pls.

BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been dropped from the new-look Parliamentary board that party chief Amit Shah has constituted, in what signals the end of an era in the BJP.

They will now be called marg-darshak or mentors.

Mr Vajpayee, unwell for many years, has not played an active role in party affairs. But for Mr Advani and Mr Joshi, it is the pink slip after serving since 1980 on the parliamentary board, the BJP's highest-decision making body made up of 12 top leaders, now headed by Amit Shah.

Among the new members is Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. Ironically, when Mr Modi was first inducted into the board early last year, Mr Advani had attempted to push for Mr Chauhan's inclusion too.

All through last year the veteran leader attempted to stall the meteoric rise in the party of Narendra Modi, but failed at every step.

By the time Mr Modi was named the presumptive Prime Minister, it was clear that Mr Advani's stock in the BJP had fallen in direct proportion to the rise of Mr Modi's.

But it is after the national elections in May, in which Mr Modi scripted for the BJP its finest hour, that Mr Advani has been truly diminished. He was denied the post he wanted - that of Speaker - and even went through the ignominy of having his nameplate removed from outside his room in Parliament, though it was later restored.

In his new role, he is unlikely to have decision-making powers; it is a title that the BJP's ideological mentor, the RSS, has tried to press upon him for years and Mr Advani has resisted.

Asked what the new group of mentors would do, party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said, "They will show the way."

He stressed its relevance by pointing out that Prime Minister Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh too are part of the mentor group. more

Thank you Hinaji, in politics people want to stick to their chair till they die out of aging and in some cases they want a graveyard at Delhi for visitors.this thinking has to go and seniors must follow a retirement age to go honorably. more
I don't understand the tears being shed by some people about the retirement of Advani, Joshi, et al. For God's sake, Advani is 85+. He may be healthier than some younger people in the party, but should not elders retire on their own. Sure they have experience and wisdom that the party can use, but why does he need 'power' and 'position' to do that. Are there not other ways he can contribute, if he was sincere about his desire to help the country and the party. I am glad Modi had the courage to retire them! more
All seniors and really old party stalwarts have understood the fact that they are respected by the party BUT the party cannot fulfill their wishes. If wishes were to come true then Beggars would ride Motor bikes. All action is taken suitably in the interest of the old party members, party progress and mainly for the country. BJP has the guts to set the trend for the youth and persons who perform and NOT for Son related to Nehru, Gandhi, etc. more
Seniors like Advaniji, Vajpaiji will be helpful to the party and Govt being vast experience in political field and Govt. Present Govt and party president should take their suggestions and approval before implementing any . Since they crossed 80 years, they should be given more respect and their suggestions shall be given more weightage G.K.Naidu, Hyderabad more
With all regards seniors have to call it a day some day and either thay decide or some body takes a decision. Are we not accespting to retire at 60.why there should not be retirement age for them who decide for others.Yes the manner of doing could have been better than this. more
