Online Sites Fooling Customers - Flipkart Notice

Snapdeal, jabong, myntra, fashion&you everyone who shows a gold mine while there is just one little gold chain (which may be bought by their own employees) should be getting this notice.

India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a show-cause notice to Flipkart, probing the e-tailing giant over its recent billion day sale.

According to media reports, the ED is likely to impose a penalty of Rs 1,000 crore on the online shopping website.

Flipkart's mega sale, seen as an equivalent to the Black Friday sale in the USA promised huge discounts and exciting deals to eager buyers.

However, it also raised concerns among small and big traders that such campaigns would badly affect players in the traditional retail market.

The e-commerce major claimed to have got a javascript:;billion hits for its special sales offer.

"We got a billion hits on our site today (Monday) and achieved our 24-hour sales target of $100 million (Rs.615 crore) in gross merchandise volume (GMV) in just 10 hours," the Bangalore-based e-commerce major said in a statement last week.

The event had other critics as well, with several buyers feeling cheated on the discount prices and system outages.

India's largest e-retailer was prompt to apologise, promising a better experience the next time round.

"We have learnt some valuable lessons from this (failure) and have started working doubly hard to address the issues that cropped during the sale," the company's co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal said. more

Not sure why this is felt as fooling customers, every merchant should have right to sale the merchandise at the discounted price and government should not put any restrictions on the discount %age. This seems to be a uproar from traders union because since they are looting customers for years by selling stuff at huge margin now felt threaten that online sites like snapdeal and others may impact their sale specially during high sale season like Diwali. For past 3 years, I always check the online price before making a purchase specially for branded products where you can compare the particular model and warranty details. Secondly most of these sites like snapdeal, ebay etc are just providing a platform to thousand of small traders who are able to sale product at lower margin because they operate from low cost locations instead of setting up shops in premium market areas. The site earn a commission for all such sale and this has been a win win situation for customers as well as small traders. Even yesterday I was looking for a laser printer and got a deal of 38% discount from MRP from snapdeal, who else can provide such a better price. The trader is situated somewhere in remote area in Chandigarh and the product comes with money back guarantee as well as manufacture warranty. How many times we have all faced a problem with regular merchants that they dont take the product back (at least dont refund money) if we want to return the product once we purchased, but this is not the case with all reputed online sites. So for me it is a boon for end customers like us. more
