MTNL Broad band services

We have an MTNL broad band connection with our land line phone which became totally erratic since past 3-4 months. The online or telephonic complain failed to evoke any response. One had to 'know' the line man personally to 'request' him to check your line. Since the lineman's phone was also 'out of reach' or 'switched off' since long, we thought enough was enough and decided to get our broad-band service disconnected. When my wife, on whose name the connection exists, went to the MTNL office situated in DDA market, I.P. Extn. Patparganj, the officer concerned refused to accept disconnection request on the grounds of poor/ inefficient services. Since we wanted to get rid of this white elephant service anyhow( we paid Rs 999/- per month without getting to use it!), we accepted to remove the reason for disconnection as inadequate services. Are the government agencies like MTNL beyond the purview of consumers interests? more

I had the same problem with my MTNL broadband, that the connection was not stable. Although the line man never ask me anything, and I would say that MTNL has improved and no more line man ask for money to fix because complaints are logged online and there is a tracking if not resolved soon.
Finally I decided to disconnect my phone and broadband and I also mentioned the poor service as reason of disconnection, the AGM accepted it and also I got followup calls afterwards. So my experience with disconnection was good in Sukhdev vihar center (south delhi).
You can write to GM MTNL (mail ids are available on mtnl web site) and for sure they will look into the matter. more  
It would be good if you bring it to the notice of higher authorities in MTNL, TRAI and Telecom Ministry. more  
my father had a mtnl connection for which he was paying 180/- for no just receiving calls and making 60 free calls, it worked to 3/- per call of 3 minutes or 1/- per minute, so what was the use, today mobile costs 30 paisa per minute. so removed the instrument and cutting the wire from our house and also sent in an application for disconnection. but mtnl did not disconnect it and kept sending me bills of minimum which i did not pay for six months and eventually it was disconnected for non payment. after two year they sent me a notice for arears of the six months but I rang up the dy. manger personally as to why i am being harrassed for the bill as I never used the phone either for incoming or out going, he said give this on email to his personal email of mtnl. finally this came to an end. more  
MTNL Broad band services have really deteriorated. Please suggest some other good service provider more
