Making Aadhaar mandatory for company directors

Ministry of Corporate Affairs has issued a gazette notification saying Company directors now need to provide their Aadhaar numbers to the government and its mandatory for all directors to go through the new KYC process, including Aadhaar details.

My worry is most things that one gives to Ministry of Corp Affairs end up in public domain and soon will our Aadhaars become public information. Then some data analytics and anyone will have full profile of directors. Not right and must be re-considered. Also what happens to foreign directors? more

Your name might be available to APIs connected to the Company of Registrars database for a third party but not your Aadhar even if they are used as primary identifier across multiple systems. Aadhar has their own systems of encrypted verification so there is no reason to worry. So far, it's proven to be adopt the best security measure to protect personal identities of it's users. more
Aadhar data will not be made visible to the public. There are still clever ways to get that but it's more of a social engineering and not really retrieval from any government systems. more
this issues needs to be put to rest fast by the govt. people think their data is always out in the open. No biometric data is accessible from Aadhaar. The rest like addresses , or profiles are easily available on the net as such. People give their contact numbers even to couriers. Also banks have enough data on people. so it is just fear that people have. The govt needs to put everything in perspective and calm the public on this. more
Your worry is right that KYC information may land in public domain and it can be risky. But the families information I am giving is happy one. When Aadhar number is filled it directly goes to Aadhar Authorities portal and a 10 digit OTP is sent on the phone number that was given in the application form of Aadhar number. The director has to fill this OTP numbers not Aadhar number. This information was given at this forum i.e. Local Circles. So, be happy. more
A company director is a public figure. He/she is using public money - either investors or customers. Therefore public accountability is necessary. We need to know who really owns which company, rather than what is publicly announced. For example, who really owns the media companies - which politician, which businessmen? Which companies are controlled by politicians and businessmen, using dummy shareholding companies? Using Aadhar numbers we should be able to navigate the maze and get closer to the truth, and reveal it to the country. So this is a good first step. more
