Terrible job market

36% students from IIT bombay are unemployed at graduation. Where exactly are we headed as a nation. Imagine the state at NITs and other govt engg colleges. Private colleges to we must forget only.

How are we doing well as a nation if most of the premier college educated youth cant find jobs and are unemployed or underemployed. more

Perhaps, these students have a sense of entitlement and as has been pointed out, their salary expectations may be very high. This may deter the employers. Graduating from a top institute may be construed as "overqualified". However, they are undoubtedly the sharpest minds of our nation and I wish them well. Being highly intelligent individuals, they will learn fast and find their groove in the society. However, not in khujliwal way :-)) more
Most IITians work for money , though most successful startups are from these very institute's alumnis . But initially IITians look for money either in India or Abroad which leaves most of them unemployable. IITians lack understanding of industry , its working , demands by its employees but have best skills to match the best . Something of an analysis for any organization / startup to dwell upon and work around a solution in this regards more
I have seen in my experience as a graduate from BIT working in Automation, there are very less opportunity for people from good backgrounds who have a lot of hands on. As a lot of tasks at the junior level are repetitive, companies prefer taking graduates who will not leave the organization soon, usually from lower tiers of colleges and also who demand lower packages. Our CEO opinion is that they find the same caliber students from lower grade colleges at less pay. Why to take from higher tier colleges. One thing I have also observed during my campus visits. Students of relatively low tier colleges were far more honest, sincere with decent hands on experience. On the other hand, tier one folks behaved as if they were entitled and had zero knowledge of their subject. The only issue with low tier ones was with English fluency, something that shouldn't be a deal breaker IMO, but our HR had a different brain wiring and they rejected good candidates, and even worse hired some non performers. more
In today’s dynamic job market, a stark contrast exists between the skill sets possessed by individuals and the expectations placed upon them. Let’s delve into this phenomenon, High Expectations, High Stakes: Graduates from prestigious institutions often harbor lofty salary expectations. Their educational pedigree fuels these aspirations. However, reality strikes when these high-profile candidates face the practical demands of work. Many find themselves ill-equipped to function independently. The “Idea-Only” Dilemma: A significant portion of the workforce possesses brilliant ideas but lacks the ability to execute them solo. Normalizing Excellence: Perhaps it’s time to shift focus. Instead of fixating on pedigrees, consider hiring well-rounded individuals. “Normal” students—those without the glitz of prestigious institutions—often outperform their counterparts. Their adaptability, work ethic, and resilience shine through. Effective Management: Companies can harness the potential of these “normal” students more effectively. By providing mentorship, fostering teamwork, and optimizing resources, organizations can unlock hidden talent. In summary, let’s embrace the diverse skill sets available. After all, it’s not about where you studied; it’s about how you contribute to business. more
