Live your ban Shiv Sena

Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray, who had pushed for the ban on single-use disposable plastic, ironically, failed to note that plastic mineral water bottles were being distributed to the people gathered for the party’s 52nd anniversary on Tuesday. Among the Sena dignitaries present at the event was cabinet minister (environment) Ramdas Kadam.

Scores of Shiv Sainiks too were seen using these bottles and there was a trail of plastic litter on the floor. When asked, a Sena party worker said, “The ban is from 23rd onwards, not today (Tuesday). Hence we used these,” a Shiv Sena party worker said. Another party worker said, “These bottles will be collected and recycled. The ban is not yet in force.”

This ban will become a big form of corruption. Water bottle companies like Bisleri, Pepsi, Coke will give political funding. New ways of corruption and a good idea gone wrong. I hope I am proven wrong. more

A form of corruption definitely. The liquor ban on highways was adopted. It did not succeed and after several months the ban was lifted!!! Will the plastic ban be lifted too? The BJP started off so well but what has happened. This is one more step to harass the already over-burdened public and make some money. Plastic bottles are not banned, milk pouches are not banned, kurkure packets are not banned, garbage bags are not banned, the corporation does not know its own plan. Maybe the plan is to discredit the BJP and put the blame on them as the elections are coming closer, who knows??? more
In today's TOI it is reported that Minister for Environment is considering exempting Thermocole decorations used in Ganesh festival from the ban. I hope he knows Thermocole is the most hazardous in plastic family. Sincerely hope granting exceptions like this against representations from vested interests does not dilute the concept. God save us. more
NO BAN ON PLASTIC MINERAL WATER BOTTELES . PLEASE VERY FY CHECK LIST PUBLISH BT GOVT OF MAHA . I AGREE ON MUN. CORPN LEVEL CORRUPTION MAY INCREASE . more
Mr.Thackery has also commented that Rs 5000/- is not high given the negative impact of plastic on environment. True. If its so, why wait for deadline to implement in their own party? He could have set an example by initiating this within his party in the last 3 months, see what practical difficulties are there and set about to solve or suggest solutions to overcome difficulties. Hefty fine should come after a take off period say 3 to 6 months, when everyone is clear and ready and able to comply. That way fines will be only on deliberate offenders and not on stray inadvertent violators. more
Banning plastic is an absurd idea. Goverment should in stead ask ingenious people to find ways to effectively recycle plastic. There already are several machines in use doing recycling. We should encourage that. Banning is sign that government is incompetent to manage its responsibility. Shame on government. more
