On Jan 23, 2014, one of these many illegal land deals was exposed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Supreme Court of India. Supreme Court rebuked Gujarat’s CM (the then Revenue Minister) Anandiben Patel for her decision to let a private refinery called Indigold sell Government land to another private refinery called Alumina Refinery. The then Gujarat Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel allowed a Mumbai-based company Indigold Refinery to sell two lakh square meters of land in Kutch, making it a multi-billion rupee scandal. There are positives in Gujarat, as also glaring negatives. It was always a mixed bag. But the media magic packaged Gujarat as a " golden apple. " more
