IS Mr.OBAMA QUALIFIED TO ADVICE MR.MODI ON INDIAN SOCIETY ?

Former US President Barrack Obama is reported to have “privately’ told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India should not be divided on sectarian lines. He is said to have emphasized how the Indian society needed to cherish that Indian muslims identify themselves as Indians.

The question that immediately arises is that whether Mr. Obama is qualified to advice Mr. Modi on India’s unity and diversity issues, since his track record in avoiding sectarian violence in US during his eight years as President of USA was abysmal. During the period when Mr.Obama was President, many shootings due to hatred and animosity between Americans have taken place and he could do nothing other than expressing his sadness and condolence. The violence in public life in America is continuing today with several innocent people being shot down for no reasons. What is he doing now in USA?

When he was President,he could not exhibit any particular leadership qualities that could make the people view his observations on need to avoid violence with respect and seriousness.

Worst of the development was when President Obama made sectarian appeal to the blacks in USA to assert themselves for their rights and privileges ,while campaigning against Mr.Trump during the recent Presidential election. He said all these even as he was in office as President of USA.

He virtually asked the blacks in USA to vote for his democratic party in view of their colour and he expected that his background as a “not white President” will impress the blacks in USA to vote for his party.

Given such background of Mr. Obama, one wonders whether he has the credentials to advice Mr. Modi about any issue relating to minorities in India. Even the pledged admirers of Mr. Obama would think as to whether he has any hidden or ulterior motives in making such unwarranted comments about the need to guard the interests of minorities in India in so many words, as if minorities are now oppressed in India.

The ground reality is that Indians are living with reasonable level of solidarity and unity, inspite of many castes and religions practiced, different languages spoken and diversified local traditions . Occassionally issues crop up and tensions develop but these are too few considering the size, population and diversity of India. Of course, Indian media , for whatever reasons, give huge priority and prominence to some isolated incidents of differences in one remote
corner of the country or the other and ignore several positives and healthy relationships between the people.

When people belonging to two religions live in harmony as it is happening in most of the places in India, it appears to be of no interest to section of Indian media, while even a minor friction between some individuals belonging to different religions are focused as if it is a matter of highest national priority.

There is a concerted media campaign today to paint Modi government as harbouring animosity towards one or two religions and being excessively supportive of one religion. This is absolutely not true as any discerning Indian cannot but note. However ,it appears that Mr.Obama wants to paint India as a country facing severe sectarian issues.

Mr. Obama seems to be interested in giving weightage to his perception that India has deep dissensions between people.
During his recent visit to India ,there are hundreds of positive things happenings in the country which could have attracted his attention but he seems to have only a tunnel view and wants to look only at an angle of his choice. A former President of a mighty country like USA is expected to have much more balanced views and perspectives, particularly on matters relating to countries like India with so much of complexities and great historical traditions.

By suggesting that India should not be divided on religious lines , Mr. Obama is implying that it is so. It is an unfair strategy and one would wish that he should be capable of exhibiting far higher level of wisdom and fair thoughts.

The media does seem to have vested unsavoury interest in besmirching BJP and Modi particularly blowing up trivial incidents here and there which probably happened more during the Congress regime. Probably it all has to do with Modi's emphasis on transparency, scrutiny of source fundings, a steady plugging of avenues to siphon and/or hoard illegal and dubiously acquired wealth and the sort. more
Mr. OBAMA is very well qualified with all the experience he has. He has been bold throughout his presidential position. It is not easy that too when he is not fair. Got it more
You have hit the nail on the head. Mr. Obama exhibited yet another glaring attempt of American harakiri of preaching something else and doing entirely something else in their own dealings within America and at global platforms. Obama would not stop racial discrimination fall outs during his tenure when white policemen were openly shooting and killing men of black origins and dragging brown Indian elderly fellow when the poor chap would not follow his instructions in English. No state action was initiated by his administration against the visible apartheid. He even has given clarifications of him having embraced Christianity from Islam in his earlier days, in Christian majority America to win his second term. Such a person doesn't have the credentials to advise the Head of State of largest democracy in the world having diversity as wide as encompassing 6 of the worlds largest religions and more than 1700 languages. more
......"is reported to have 'privately' told.......sounds like "assumption"......a "private" piece of advice becoming public, also poses a ?-mark. ....."is said to have emphasised"......too. Fact is that religions, casts, colours and classes etc. are all "dividers" not "uniters". It's obvious, one doesn't need an Obama to point it out. We should awaken this awareness in ourselves to remove the "dividers". more
The media is always focusing small trivial happening as big one.The clarity of co-existance as exhibited in India tells volumes to the other countries.
Please publish the atrocities committed to our Indians elswhere. This community only adjusts their needs and survives there.
Please treat the majority people of India is so generous and adjusting.
Let us not communalise each and every actions happening in this vast country. All are not Budhas. The expectation from x community is different from y community.Dealing with Crime is to be handled without seeing community colour. more
Obama's comments were ridiculous on more counts than one..1) How come he suddenly thinks that India is being divided? 2) Why his appeal only for Muslims and not any other sects / religions; 3) Has he made similar appeals / dictacts to Bangladesh and Pakistan to protect Hindus? more
There is no doubt that saffornization is being attempted, sponsored or backed by the State. Reconcilliation is not the tone of some leaders. more
