Irregularities in appointment of NIT Directors

It is good to see that these days common people are using social networking sites to share their valuable suggestion/opinion on different issues. I thank the new Government for this initiative. In this post, I would like to draw the attention of millions of concerned people regarding the irregularities in the appointment of the Directors and Vice Chancellors of technical institutes and universities. Most of the appointments are politically biased. The selection/scrutiny committee hardly follow the guidelines. The last UPA Government had crossed all the limits by giving re-appointments and undue extensions to many such academic heads. Prof. Sunil Sarangi got three times appointment as the Director of NIT Rourkela. To our utter surprise, he again got a two years extension just before the general election, as if there is no other eligible person in India. I even did not get my RTI response regarding the list of applicants for the post of NIT Rourkela Director. If in democracy, the Prime minister cannot get an extension, a humble man like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam can’t be nominated for the second time as the President of India, then how come Prof. Sarangi got three times appointment and an extension? Certainly, most of the employees will hesitate to work under a corrupt employer. I request the Government to reduce the retirement age of the NIT and IIT Directors and bring some amendments in the existing rule, so that a person cannot be shortlisted as the Director of such prestigious institutes after completing one term. more

Politicians and Government Officials can receive bribes only if somebody gives bribe. So long as givers and receivers remain in society curbing corruption and bribery is out of question. more
Corruption in appointment in Higher educational institutions especially colleges in Odisha has been taking place since time immemorial. When we had passed out post graduation in 1985, getting lecturer ship in a government college was a dream. They gave of money and politics was high. Yes students who were kids of Professors or lecturers only had hope of a job. more
Mr.Sahoo is perfectly right in his post. The answer to most of the corrupt practices would be keeping the political operators who are of degenerated values at a bay, which too can be done only by seniors among them, who must themselves be above board. Do we have such seniors to start with it, I doubt, since they as a class generally are of such mind set not to favour a second term for Dr. Abdul Kalam who was an embodiment of virtues and self accounting in office as well as public life!? Only time alone can usher in the changes in it's natural course. The successive Law Commissions have made recommendations in this direction many a times. But the final machinery to accept the recommendations and act upon it being again the very same politicians the recommendations remained recommendations only. Let us see the last of such recommendations submitted recently under the Chairmanship of Justice A.P.Shahwould be accepted and acted upon! more
Any way who is the taker here nobody. more
There should not be extension of term in any of the organisations, when many eligible people are awaiting their turn to show their efficiency. If there is no provision in the law, it should be stopped. more
