Extra Charges in hotels and restaurants
So after GST rate reduction, some restaurants and even chains in Delhi have increased base prices. Going forward, seems like we will be paying more, then for coke, water paying above the MRP and then paying service charge to top it up.
Should we stop eating out, all together? I think the restaurants have to make good judgement before the impose all these random charges upon us consumers. more

My suggestion is when packaged water/cold drinks/any other items are served with meals Restaurants and Hotels should charge as per MRP. The fact that is ignored by the court even is manufacturers/ packagers keep a good amount of money included in MRP for retailers/distributors. This could be checked and verified on the basis of excise duty/GST paid on a base amount. Currently MRP is not a transparent figure and therefore at all outlets these should be sold at printed MRP only. more

Demand supply reaches an equilibrium at a price. We are concerned about our pay hikes but recommend denying it to others when we demand price cap on goods and services. Demand for lower prices on food items denies higher income to farmers. Similarly cap on prices charged by restaurants denies decent salaries and working conditions to their employees. If any business is overcharging, it will shut down sooner or later. As long as there is a demand for goods and services at a price business will survive. You have to adjust by visiting the establishments that suit your budget. You can’t demand that a 5 star hotel provides you food at Dhaba rates. more

Customers should be allowed to take their own water / cold drink bottles inside retaurants. more

Eat & drink home. Be at home avoiding impact due traffic chaos on roads and poor quality of air. Every thing we (98% of citizens) have made bad in the country and therefore a Ban should be imposed on us allowing rest 2% people to live and enjoy their life with all comforts. more

Yes Shivani,very correctly said.We should either completely stop eating at restaurants or visit sparingly to drive home the point.After all , they depend on customers for business and there is a limit to which they can exploit us.At the same time,we should also be conscious and aware about genuine problems faced by hotels/restaurants.There are too many restrictions on them too.The inspector raj has not ended in practice.They have to grease the palms of many officials(maybe police,food department officials etc),face regular threats from national green tribunal,municipal authorities,criminals and hafta seekers and face regular tantrums from customers.Believe me ,it is very difficult to open and run a restaurant. more

A writ should be filed by us the Local Circles against the order of the Court implicating reason WHY charge extra.Already their profits are high, a simple One Roti costs of One Kg.Atta ,leave about the others items but water is an essential itm and since the Govt.can give a good quality of Normal water people are forced to buy bottled water and now this Justice deptt.finds that even this to be sold at a profitable modus.A real shame ad a bigger shame by the judges who passed this order.This should be taken as a serious offence and like me I voice this thru media . more
