Yes, this is the case. But generally we do not come to know the restaurant prices. So unknowingly we end up paying more. But in some cases there are discounts given which is advertised very prominently by the food delivery agency. Also these food delivery people are hell drivers on the roads and road rules does not exist for them, I suppose. In my opinion this service is to used only by those who are genuinely in need such as tired office goers, elderly people eic.. But lot of people use for comfort, laziness, and convenience. more

yes of course, you would not be knowing the price tag at restaurant while booking is online, they hike the price. because maker wont provide any discount if you opt through these apps, over and above app and delivery charges will add. It is known fact to users, still they go with it, as they get service at their doorstep. more

This is true. But The buyers weigh it against their affordability status, the comfort of getting served at home with no travel, auto/ taxi cost including risk of travel, etc etc. I’m not one of them. But Some bench marks need to be imposed legally. Thanks more

I agree with the OP. But the thing is, convenience trumps the price off set, especially when it's affordable. Most people would rather pay the higher charges than go out to the restaurant or cook food themselves. And the food delivery apps have done their homework. more

I agree with you Sri Roy. When I was in the UK in the seventies, take away food from Indian restaurants was 10% cheaper. I do not know the position now.
On a related issue, it is the same with online booking for Railway too. No need for the staff to do anything, no stationary for printing etc. Yet they charge a convenience fee. At least this could be a small fee for one booking instead of one passenger. more

On that note, restaurants have been cheating us for years. When I pay for a dine in, I am also paying for the facilities; the cover, the electricity, the service, the entertainment (if available). But in a takeaway I am not using any of these facilities. I am not even using the cover which they can give to someone else who opts for a dine in. Yet, a takeaway is marked at the same price as a dine-in. more

Apart from price, its adding to the already existing plastic garbage mountains. We live in a free country, we prioritize convenience and who can stop our contribution to our country. Its my problem to visualize the garbage that is getting added when I see towers of new plastic packaging material in one restaurant. Imagine the entire city's plastic waste addition in a day - But it is the government that should manage waste and why I bother ? Also, we have a call of duty to make Swiggy and Zomato to become profitable to transform India. more
