Doctors that own pharmacy and lab
NMC says Doctors cannot receive cuts and commissions from labs and chemists. Howevwr I have noticed that in many cases these are opened by Doctora directly or at an arms length operated by a relative.
How does NMC plan to handle this scenario.
Otherwise more Docs will buy these labs and chemists or invest in them and then share profits. more

There is hardly any ethics left in medical profession. Besides running Labs and shops, doctors cheat their patients during consultation. Doctors would neither care to write a prescription in the mandate form nor would they like to give a patience hearing to their patients. Many doctors in popular hospitals spent hardly 2-3 minutes with a patient and would charge a full fee even to examine the test reports prescribed by them. Desirability of the tests is another matter. Some hospitals, that were built on land allotted by the Govt. on subsidized rates and became popular with Govt./Corporate houses patronage have devised yet another way of extracting money from the patients by organizing normal and special OPD where consultation fee is in the ratio of 1:2 or more. more

Yes, now it has become a tradition for majority of the doctors and hospitals to have a lab and a medical store which give huge profits. The margin on medicines alone is said to 30-40%. Moreover, if one purchases medicines from a medical store outside he is likely to get a discount of 10-15%, which is generally not available here. In some cases even the medicines prescribed are not available in outside shops. The charges for lab tests are generally at the optimum label. The family members of the patients are helpless and tje government is reluctant to act in favor of the sufferers. more

Sometimes cashless payments are encouraged and due to which limited chemists shop may be made eligible. If reimbursement against purchased medicines are raised with the prescription, same may be refused. Medical oxygen supplies, for example comes from air separation units and/or pressure swing adsorption technique. Cost may vary if some prefers to have the medical oxygen supplies by electrolysis of water, which is energy intensive. Treatment costs may be a function of approach used towards treatment. Patients prefer well established approach that are affordable and less time consuming. more

normally once the doctors become slightly popular what they do is get into either indirectly running some medical shops or partners in the lab testing so that all references will go there only so that they get benefitted.All doctors adopt it.But as long as the treatment is good anyway patients will have to go to some shop to buy the medicines or for testing.If doctors say that if you go to these specific shops or labs you will be getting discount then it helps the patient who is already burdened by the treatment costs. more
