I thank Mr Virmani for his valuable comments. If there is transparency of rules and obligations of the concerned department say on the issue of replacement of faulty electrical energy meter it will be possible for consumers to demand stipulated service. Unfortunately, as information is not readily available consumers end up on the receiving end by the system. Imposition of interim charges levied generally seem to be arbitrary and there is looming threat of discontinuation of energy supply. I did not pay over and above charges paid to the department but had to make several trips for pursuing the issue. more

As far as replacement of faulty meter is concerned, possibly the corruption is because on not aware of rules and regulations. Every State has got regulations to replace the meter within specified number of days and if not replaced then the electricity companies are suppose to pay penalty at specified rate per day. Yes, I agree we have to face hostility of officials to get driving licence, passport etc. as the officials are not subjected to any accountability and questioning. more

Corruption at any level canât continue for a long without the connivance of the seniorââs right up to ministerial level. At ministerial level it canât continue without at party level and in the party without public support. At the end it is up to the public to allow corruption to continue or eradicate it. In a democracy if people elect their representative with a sense of integrity and honesty, corruption could certainly go down more

Yes indeed. My experience, however, suggests that work ultimately gets done wqithout speed money though it takes much longer and tests your patience more
