consumer dilemma

Dear Sir,
In June 2014 I had purchased a Voltas window AC 1.5 Ton DY model from Vijay Sales, Janak Puri, New Delhi. When I saw that in display, I found its front air grill that is used to direct the air flow up- down was not moving up or down and facing only front, I asked the salesman about the same he told me that being on display it may have got jammed but i will get a fresh piece in which that will not be a problem. On the very first day of purchase i found the same problem with my AC, hence I called up the customer care and registered my complaint. Within 2-3 days an executive of the company(Voltas) visited me, I was shocked to know from him that in this particular model the grill do not move up or down, I was also told that by him that I made a wrong choice as due to this in built problem that company had launched a new model DL in which the grill is made stronger, wide and movable. Since then neither the company nor the seller have taken cognizance of my problem, I sent e-mails to both of them but they care to respond. The grill is so fragile that if I try to move it up or down the whole of it comes out of the grooves and to remake it I have to spent a lot of time on it.
The grill throws cold air directly on the face and it was very problematic, if ever tried to direct the air up or down either it did not move and if moved every time whole of it fall out of grooves. The quality of the grill is very poor, it is very surprising how can a company of high reputation could sell such a product with cheap quality material and without a very basic function? I was fooled both by the seller as well as the company.
Now what all can I do?
Shall I approach the consumer court?
Will it be of any help after 6 months of purchase?
Kindly suggest me the appropriate remedy? more  

Dear Mr. Jitendra Sharma, I have a suggestions. Please compare the product with the tecnical specifications. In case the product is not as per specified specifications, you have a right to get it replaced. To get replacement, please bring out the facts on record for which a complaint can be sent to the company by speed post and request them to set it right or replace the same. You may like to give some time period of 30 days or so and conclude your complaint by stating that if the company fails to redress the complaint satisfactory within 30 days I will be compelled to take legal remedies at your risk and cost.

The recourse to consumer forum is not suggested as it is time consuming and one could try if alternative channels can work. Consumer forum in any case need to be a last option and if needed should be exercised to assert one's rights. more  
Better change this model with the new one with desired function after paying some extra cost, if dealer/company agrees for thew same. Since there will be no recorded version of your demand of grill movement, the consumer court may not be of much help, unless movability of grills are mentioned in the mannal of this model. more  
I had reported two years ago a similar experience on Vijay sales lajpat nagar, while buying a whirlpool refridgerator. but I reported the matter to the whirlpool company on email and they said vijay sales had sold defective piece and it was the last piece also and asked vijay sales to refund the money. so I got the money and bought a new panasonic fridge from vijay sales which again turned out to be defective and was only the last piece as that model was discontinued now. yet the company replaced that fridge with a bigger model absolutely brand new model just launched after nearly one year and panasonic gave me 50% discount also on the difference amount and fresh one year guarantee and now i am satisfied.
BUT THE FACT REMAINS VIJAY SALES SELLS ONLY LAST PIECES AND ONLY GRADE III DEFECTIVE PIECES PICKED UP AT CONSIDERABLE DISCOUNT FROM THE COMPANY. more  
6 months time gap will not adversely effect consideration of your application, as you were already in touch with them. more  
The user manual is bible in your case, if it suggests that the air flow should move up-down in that model then you could sue the company in consumer court. more
