Coming Soon: a Report Card for BJP Members of Parliament - NDTV

This is so good to see. Combine this with a constituency circle where the constituents can share how things are will bring good transparency in governance...

The ruling BJP has reportedly made it clear to its MPs that slacking off is not an option and that their performance in Parliament will be monitored.

Sources say the party plans to give its 320-odd MPs in both Houses a monthly report of their performance.

They have to check out all the boxes - attendance, the questions they ask in the house, and their participation in discussions.

They will be under scrutiny even when Parliament is not in session. Their attendance and seriousness in participating in parliamentary committees will be recorded, say sources.

The party doesn't plan to take any action on the report, however adverse, but sources say it will be served to the MPs "for future reference".

Sources said the "non-performers" will get pointed reminders.

After storming to power in the national election, the party has routinely issued diktats that underscore that the newly elected lawmakers - including about 160 first timers - cannot be complacent.

In a move driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new roster has made it mandatory for one minister to be present every day at the BJP headquarters in Delhi to ensure that the party and the government are in sync on important policies.

Just after taking charge in May, Mr Modi had given a list of dos and don'ts to first time MPs that included treating parliament proceedings like the "Bhagwad Gita" and nurturing their constituencies.

"Our transition from opposition to treasury is not limited to moving a few feet to the other side. This is a significant transition and we must try to appreciate the meaning of this," Mr Modi had told them.

Last week, the party warned lawmakers against lobbying for foreign trips when Parliament is in session, skipping key party meetings and volunteering for house committees without consulting top leaders.

Sources said the party has also warned its spokespersons against missing a weekly Monday meeting with Arun Jaitley, even if some of them are ministers now. After some of them stayed away last week, they were told that a report on the meetings would be sent to the PM. more

I have also heard throgh TV news and news papers. I feel what our P.M is doing is a right thing and he has asked to spend thier time in thier Constituencies by meeting thier own voters/people to know thier state. This is itself a good move by our P.M. Atleast few voters /people can reaveal thier problems/difficulties to notice to Govt through thier M.Ps. This may help for solving the problems for certain extent and this is a one of the best practices as suggested by Shri Narendra Modi G.K.Naidu, HYderabad more
Welcome to all positive decision. My view / request is also see ,the development on his respected constituency ,MP is responsible for every citizen. MP can solve all problem ,because his link is with common man .and policy / Government means - for the people,by the people, from the people. Regards Anand Chaudhary more
this is the only practical approach.WORK SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS.All good wishes more
This is an excellent proposition and is urgently required to put back the degraded morals of every one in the society including all of us. This is nothing but an accountability to the society to whom we represent for good work. As said earlier by our PM, this government is really doing its job to qualify itself for the phrase-By the people, for the people and of the people. The things in the society are at such a lowly performance level that we are taking every thing as granted and no one is responsible for any thing he is doing or supposed to do. Inculcating this habit shall drive down the people at top for responsibility and shall be passed on to lower levels to share appropriate responsibilities and sens of ownership. This is very much required and a sort of authoritarian attitude is required , of course guarded, lest things should not be dictated. I personaly support this drive and also offer myself for such a moral social responsibility and ownership. more
Good move to keep track on elected representatives, who mostly got elected due to Modi wave this time. Electorate should not be taken for granted, those representatives who neglect their constituencies and get involved in power game and lose touch from grass roots are bound to loose in subsequent elections. e.g. in UP Congress, BSP and SP are decimated, same could happen where BJP is ruling and not coming up to the expectations of citizens. If work dosent start from the 1st year than 5 yrs will pass in not time, it is the collective responsibility of MP's and MLA's not only of top leadership. more
