Cataract surgery

India houses world’s largest number of cataract-blind persons.

Government’s effort to provide vision to these patients by way of cataract removal surgery of phacoemulsification with the simultaneous implantation of intraocular lens (IOL) at public sector hospitals is appreciable.

There are numerous NGOs, too, engaged in this type of surgery.

However, “performing cataract surgery under strict hygienic conditions is a must for its successful outcome”, rightly says ophthalmic surgeon Dr Maneesh Kumar.

Gone are the days of old-time cataract surgery when patients were made to lie and remain in bed on their back for around a week!

With improved technique and quality instrumentation, coupled with the surgeon’s expertise, cataract surgery is now a 99% safe surgery...and has become a day surgery, that can be performed in any stage of cataract if it interferes with the daily life-style of an individual.

So, if you (or a member of your family) are suffering from cataract, don’t delay visiting an ophthalmologist; schedule an appointment today!
