BJP trying to board Rajni...(good move)

Sensing a political opportunity in Tamil Nadu following the conviction of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its efforts to make superstar Rajinikanth join the party.

During a Navarathri visit to Mr. Rajinikanth’s residence last week, Tamilisai Soundararajan, president of the BJP State unit, tossed the idea of the popular actor supporting the party to his wife, Lata Rajinikanth, party sources said.

BJP sources told The Hindu that Ms. Soundararajan went to the actor’s house on an invitation from Ms. Rajinikanth.

The actor was, however, away shooting for his next movie, Linga.

Ms. Soundararajan invited Mr. Rajinikanth to release a book on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently being given the final touches. She told the family that she would visit again to talk about the book when Mr. Rajinikanth returned. They discussed the political situation.

A senior BJP leader said the party felt the situation as ideal for roping in someone like Mr. Rajinikanth, who had mass appeal.

Past support
Recalling Mr. Rajinikanth’s support to the DMK-TMC combine in 1996, the leader said the actor’s backing could be a huge boost to the party’s fortunes in Tamil Nadu.

“Both the AIADMK and the DMK are facing corruption charges. We believe there will be a huge leadership vacuum in the next Assembly election,” the leader said.

Talk of the BJP trying to get Mr. Rajinikanth on board has been doing the rounds for a while.

The actor has a positive opinion about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who met him at his Poes Garden residence during the Lok Sabha election campaign in the State.

Party national president Amit Shah is learnt to have discussed the possibility of inducting the actor. more

It is a very bad move which can never fructify. Rajinikanth, shall be a reluctant person as far as politics is concerned.Tamil Nadu BJP should take the situation in its own stride and start canvassing eyeing for those who are really fed up with the corrupt practices of the Dravidian parties. It could be an ideological, practical, political, election oriented fight as well. That will indeed be very interesting, if given a tough fight. The onus lies on the shoulders of TN BJP to make or mar the situation. more
I think it is a good move both for the party as well as the state. he has a huge followings and is a clean and generous man. more
He is the BOSS and Thailavar - no doubt. A great human being and someone who speaks his mind out loudly. His last movie as a superstar should end with "LINGA". He should immediately get into politics to represent a nationalist party who is only concerned about OUR INDIA/ ONE NATION. In 2016, BJP may not sweep tamil nadu which will make him a CM. That's not needed nor he will have the ability to fight the tamilnadu dirty politics. Today you don't have anyone representing tamil nadu at centre and through BJP Rajya Sabha, Rajni can be at the centre. The public in Tamil nadu need a change - and they deserve this... Conclusion : It is in the best interest of Narendra Modi to take this as a personal agenda and expect Rajni to reciprocate the gesture - SOUTH is very important for BJP !!!! more
I agree that it is right time for Rajni to join BJP in the interest of Tamilnadu & India it self. more
If Rajanikanth want to do any good to the Tamil nadu, this is the right choice for him and to BJP. more
