I was having a landline and internet connection of Airtel in my Delhi Residence for last 8 -9 years. Since i found that almost all the service providers are similar in service, i was persisting with Airtel. Now I understood that MTNL (Delhi version of BSNL) is providing a better and faster Internet connection and phone I switched over to MTNL, which is giving a better service. During May 2015 I requested Airtel to disconnect their services. I was told that the connection will be closed within next 7 days. After 8 days also they didn't disconnect. Then I started getting new new offers and promises of better service etc. None of the new offers were acceptable. Then finally one of their executives called me and said 'your bill for the month of May has been waived off, please try us out for another month and if you are satisfied continue with us". Then I said 'ok it is acceptable to me, but send your offer in writing'. He replied that he cannot send a written letter but shall send you an email. I accepted that, but in spite of waiting no email came. So I paid off their May bill along with delayed payment charges also. Some time in mid June, I screamed at them over the telephone then they gave me a disconnection request number etc. Now they are serving a bill for the month of June 2015. (Rs 1,500/-). Can anyone who has the knowledge of law/ rules and regulations advise me what action i should take? Am I obliged to pay this bill? They have started making regular telephone calls. I am a retired , senior citizen, and finds such calls very disturbing. Some one please kindly advise me ASAP.

If any of the member has put up a proper request for disconnection and the connection was not disconnected, I would love to seek the copy of complaint for a proper redressal. Let me cit an example of MTNL which is a PSU and where the complaint redressal is most difficult. I had requested for disconnection in October 2014. The connection was not disconnected till July 2015. MTNL continued to send bills which were not being paid stating them of disconnection request pending. In July 2015, a message received confirming disconnection of services with reversal of all bills. I followed the below listed procedure which is as per TRAI regulations. While I will be looking forward copy of the complaint from any of the members in case he feels harassed from the service provider ( I assure you that I will undertake to take forward the cause with the company), I will also like to suggest following:
1. Please put up your request for disconnection in explicit manner.
2. The connection is supposed to be disconnected within 24 hrs to 7 days depending upon the mode of request i.e written, email etc.
3. If the connection has not been disconnected, please stop using the same.
4. The company's equipment like telephone instruments, modem etc. are to be returned back and take receipt.
5. The last bill generated has to be with adjustment of security deposit if any. If the security amount is more than the last bill, the balance amount has to be refunded within 60 days, If not refunded within 60 days, the refund has to be with 10% per annum interest beyond 60 days. more

I wonder whether the call received was from a police officer. There is no criminal offence here, then why will the police interfere like that? If it was a real policeman, he should have been reminded that a court of law exist in our country. more  
Mr Nair, I had the same problem with Airtel. They did not disconnect my line and I did not know that. After three months, I got a call in my office from a guy who spoke so rudely in Hindi saying he is calling from the local police dept that I should make the payment within 24 hours if not I will be taken to the police station and a case will be filed against me and I have to go to the court to pay the pending dues along with the lawyer fees. I got so frightened and ran to the Airtel office in MG Road and made the payment. This same thing happened to a friend of mine too. more  
This is a now a normal practice for almost all internet providers, I suffered the same experience with TATA DOCOMO in Pune last year.they are all crooks. more  
GOVT is it self cheater, helps all cheaters like police , who are hand in hand with wrong doers, all except HONEST PERSONS having UNITY because honest having EGO , both honest think that they are right and does not unite but wrong doers know that today he is supporting other one, next day he may / will help him at the time of his wrong doing JAY HIND more
