Airlines - Is there a cartel?

Can't understand. Economy is in bad shape, market is bad still airfares are high and not one airline seems to be running specials.

Is it just the season. Is it bad tax structure or some carteling/unethical practice going on.

Whatever it is - its not good for consumer and airlines are anyways all loosing money. more

It's our Govt./DGCA that needs to take a call...but...!!! It only happens in India that ordinary fliers suffers...Airlines are still shouting losses and availing subsidised fuel from PSUs'....? more
LOL Vinita. I am a regular flier. The fares vary up to 5 times in off season versus peak season or special festive periods. Inspite of calling themselves budget airlines or low cost carriers, they do charge exorbitant fares , that too without an iota of additional service or even a small bottle of water on board. It is surely a policy of EXTRACT THE MAXIMUM YOU CAN OUT OF THE PASSENGER which i don't think can go on without the shortcomings in policy and the connivance of authorities. more
Apart from Cartel, they are cheating in every sense sply Indgo. They show higher flying time in tickets than other airline for same destination and say we reached before time. Then also take you in bus to the plane evn when people are boarding or plane is being cleaned.Fares are no more no frill fares, I still prefer AI for hotter food and TV etc. more
It is really a matter of concern that all airlines form a cartelwith the help of Air India/Indian airlines which is always running into loss because of mis management and bungling and is being given financial suport by govt so that it can always be misutilised by the ministers and senior govt officials. The fair being charged by indian ir lines becomes the benchmark for pvt airlines and thus higher cost to fliers. International fare is much cheaper still they make profit. Dont expect any thing from govt as they have vested interest. Ramesh more
