Affect of Demonetisation

Demonetisation was supported by me thinking it is a right and bold step to unearth the black money. But the way it is being handled and bringing the 50-50 scheme has shattered my thoughts. Now I feel pity for all those who are standing in queues either for themselves or for their bosses. Secondly 80% poor work force is working in unorganised sectors, who are paid their wages in cash, their livelihood is affected Worsley. Either the government's intention is not clear or there is a big mismanagement. more

The effect of demonetisation reminds me of the uncanny resemblance it has to the dark days of the emergency. The same dictatorial dimension, the same play with words, the same volumnous sycophancy, and the same apathy of the public at large and acceptance of the madness as "karma".Judiciary toeing the governments line(with a few grunts and groans here and there) is what amazes me the most. With more than 90% of the demonetised notes back with the government and twenty plus days left to go,this government will soon have egg on their face. The sad part of this whole episode is that like a cracked egg,the original shell can never be restored,so too, history will possibly record this event as the Second coming of Muhammad Bin Tughlaq. In a fitting description of Tughlaq,Wiki records him as "careless, sometimes insane and sometimes acted like a real hero and leader."Bone chilling resemblance to his later day Avataar. more
I feel that we are forgetting one of the objects of demonitisation, viz., removing fake notes actively injected into our system by Pakistan and extortion money collected by Maoists. If the activities of these of these elements lose momentum, then I will consider one of the main objectives of this exercise as achieved. Black money per se can be removed by two means, one induce it to come into the mainstream so that the state gets the benefit of derived taxes and the productive avenues where it was invested come out of the shadows. Another will be to drive the black money outside the system, but that will have the effect of taking it out of areas where it was deployed, albeit without the state knowing about it, with attendant ill effects on employment. I would prefer the current initiative will result in results of the former type. But yes the currency substitution is being very badly handled. People are suffering. This was entirely avoidable. Somebody goofed up big time on the currency supply issue. Hopefully the benefits being derived will offset these adverse effects. But the Government has to empathise more with affected people. No two opinions on that. more
The inept action in printing and supply of fresh currency and the consequent shortage of low denomination notes has successfully frozen all our accounts. Vegetable shops and provision stores are facing reduced sales. I think the entire gamut of fallout effects has not been seriously thought over or anticipated. It is also wrong to begin a rich versus poor battle in our country which may well lead to anarchy. How can the PM advise the Jan Dhan accountholders not to return the money deposited in their accounts to the original depositor? Will they not face retribution from the goondagiri that is unleashed on hapless souls in various parts of India today? L.Kalavathi Retd.
