A good spectacle frame...

The other day, there was this young man who came to the clinic for eye check-up and Rx as he wanted to go in for a good spectacle frame…that he had already purchased from weekly road-side market!

A good spectacle frame is one that

*fits well on the face,
*is comfortable to wear,
*is of right size,
*is made of a good material (plastic, metal, or a combination of different materials), and
*is good to look at…

and your eye care professional is the person who guides you in its proper selection.

There is an old saying: `Sasta roye baar baar, mehenga roye ek baar' - Dr. Narendra Kumar, Ophthacare Eye Centre more
Yes the margins on frames and glasses are more than 60% even more than the medicines, only more medicines sell per day than the frames and glasses. The swiss glasses being advertised at 1200 odd rupees by Lens cart actually can be bought at around Rs 500 from Billimaran, Chandni chawnk. And these glasses are complete with the swiss brand on the glass background, seen when you blow on the glass. The metal rimless frames golden and silver are available for unbelievable prices of Rs 350 on wards which are sold in market at anywhere from 1500 rupees onwards. Go to this market and get more than 50% discount and get they give the glasses ready to wear in 2 hours flat. By the time you go and have your parantha from the parantha wali gali, and lo behold they are ready!!! You need not travel twice. Try it, it is worth it. And there are many shops. You could bargain and get a better price too. more
Looking at frames it is very difficult to understand why the frames are so costly in comparison to the material used. It appears that margins in this industry are very high. more
Great.Yes the frame should be one that the person wearing it likes, as it is an accessory and not an equipment to see clearly. Just as you feel proud in wearing a set of clothes you like, similarly you should wear a frame you like and you shall feel proud wearing it. This wearing a frame you like adds lots of value to your personality. Then what is important is that the glasses are made so that your eye vision is through the centre of the lens from where the focal length is designed and grinding done. This is important to ensure that your vision is really 6/6 or 6/5 as has been accessed while giving you the number, and you have no headaches and no vision loss. Very important to ensure you do not allow your vision to deteriorate. more
