BJP in its manifesto expressly promised to the farming community “Ensuring a minimum of 50% profits over the cost of production.”

See how BJP has fulfilled its promose:

MSP of cotton: Rs.4050 compared to Rs.4000 last year
MSP of paddy: Rs.1360 compared to Rs.1310 last year
MSP of Maize & Bajra: No increse compared to last year
MSP of most crops: Rs.50/- increse compared to last year

Above increase, being much lower than inflation rate, will further decrease the purchasing power of farmers. Who will be answerable to the families of those farmers who might commit suicide this kharif season? Will media cover this story at that time only? more

Sorry Malik sahib, the increase by 3.5% is not sufficient to meet the costs farmers incur. Let me give you an example, I tested the case of wheat : MSP (minimum support price) vis-a-vis cost of cultivation. The historical data revealed shocking results. The increase in MSP worked out by regressing was 0.54, where as the same in the case of cost of cultivation was about 1.53. The full paper is available in Rajasthan Economic Journal, 2010. When checked with Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) which determine the MSP, the answer gave bigger shock. and that was: the commission considers many things in addition to Cost of cultivation; when enquired as to what were those many things and their basis, there was no clear cut answer. I wont be wrong if I say that MSP is biggest fraud committed on Indian agriculture. It depresses the prices to keep them around MSP or lower then that. Farmers are not allowed to export when the international prices are higher than domestic. or when the domestic prices rise due to shortage in production huge quantity is imported. Some times even when domestic market is full. Take the case of wheat, during late nineties Indian go downs were over flowing bcz there were 63 million tonnes of wheat against the requirement of 25-30 million tonnes for those days. The BJP govt. under the leadership of sh Bajpayeeji (Ram Krishan Hegde agri.minister) imported wheat for thousands of crores during 97-98, 98-99. The exact figures are quoted in the above referred to paper. BJP during election campaign promised in unequivocal terms the implementation of Swaminathan report on agriculture. They should do that now and Even half of its recommendations will bring achhe din for indian agri.darshan From: support@localcirclesmail.com To: ds_bhupal@hotmail.com Subject: Commented on "BJP in its manifesto expr..." in [Aam Aadmi Party Delhi/NCR] Date: Sat, 28 Jun 2014 06:47:02 +0000 more
Remunerative prices for farm produce were the only way to ensure food security. "Farmer should get his due for hard work, the poor should to be compensated through subsidized food," Crisis in agriculture was evident from the fact that while the share of agriculture in the overall GDP of the country was declining, the number of people dependent on agriculture still remained as high as before. Villagers are migrating to cities Problem in city are increasing we are spending on Water/ Waste Handling/ Pollution/ Law & Order/ Rapes etc. Same shall be spent in villages more
our PM has hiked rice procurement price by 3.8 % Great incentive for Indian famers, they will increase production Rice will be available for all Achhe Din Aa Gaye Hai To give relief to urban inflation will passed to farmer Good immediate solution Long run we will import Rice more
Dear Sunil Dutt Agawalji,What u mentioned is very2 alarming.Finding no way to meet both ends & reeling under huge loans, unable to repay, their only option left is mass scale suicide. What u have mentioned is also available on AAP Dainik Samachar on mob no 9555511227.
