I am just reproducing a mail to State Bank of India regarding debiting for SMS alerts for transactions from the bank accounts. I would seek your comments so that the mail is written to RBI.
"Dear Sir,
I refer to the above SB account No. xxxxxxxxxxxxx held with your ............ branch, Delhi.
I have done only two transactions during the year 2013-14 (1st April 2013 to 31st March 2014). One transaction pertain to only credit on 24 July 2013 and 2nd transaction related to debit on 25/07/2013. Hence I am quite sure only two SMS must have been generated.
It is surprising there is a debit of Rs. 60/- in 4 quarters of Rs. 15/- each. The customer has to pay Rs. 30/- for each SMS alert is really amazing. RBI also states that the SMS alerts services need to be paid on actual messages. I feel that it requires your insight of charging the customers for SMS alert services. I would be grateful if you could look into the issue and will be grateful for your views on such deductions. I am just wondering if the additional charges (if you are really convinced that this is unnecessary taxing) to my account.

Virmaniji, You have used the correct statement: " approaching the bank itself and submit a logical submission" is best way to get results.
Once axis bank charged me 4000/- for transactiing 20 lacs withdrawal and deposit my own FD amount on maturity. I wrote a letter asking an explanation from the ombudsman of axis bank and next day sharp at 10AM I gat a call from Br. Manager expressing regret and reversing the entry.
There are many ROGUE banks like ICICI, HDFC, AXIS, SBI who are leaders in continuously proposing rogue charges blatantly. more  
Dear Friends, I am pleased to inform all the members of this group that SBI has refunded the amount and that too without going to Ombudsman, consumer forum etc. This required only approaching the bank itself and submit a logical submission. I would also like to suggest here that the consumers need to be alert and keep check on unauthorised charging irrespective of whatever the amount is and that was the purpose of writing my experience over here. Incidentally in one of the post in this group where I brought up the issue of excess charging by newspaper vendors. When I was sharing in person with few of the residents, I came to know that they were being charged somewhere an amount of 70-80 per month which remained unnoticed by them. I have also informed RWA to advise residents accordingly. So 'Jago Grahak Jago' is the theme. more  
Would suggest to check if there is an option to opt out of receiving SMS alerts more  
Dear Member Friends, The purpose of writing this article on the group was to highlight the practices of unethical charging by banks. We generally do not pay any attention to such unethical practices. As far as refund is concerned I am quite sure of getting it but my purpose was not to get refund for me but to take up the matter with concerned authorities to direct SBI to refund to all those from whom they have charged extra amount or at least put an end to such practices. As a first step I have already written an article and forwarded to SBI as well as RBI.
