Dear Members, Mobile subscribers are facing problem of activation of value added services on their mobile without seeking any consent. While TRAI rules well specifies that mobile companies cannot activate value added service without subscriber's consent. However the things are better said than done. In a short survey more than 88% respondents said the services getting activated without their consent.
2. However, the companies are auto renewing the value added services once the validity is over and they need not have explicit consent of the subscribers as per TRAI regulations. This part of the regulation is being looked as "anti-consumer policy". The matter was taken up with TRAI for ensuring that subscriber's consent be mandated for auto-renewing. TRAI as usual being pro-telecom companies declined stating most of the consumers are interested in such regulations. In order to counter/verify the contention of TRAI we had posted a question to seek public view. So far only 5% of the respondent said that no consent be mandated, 95% respondent stated explicit consent be required for renewal of the value added service. @Shri saaatya Pal: Thanks for your opinion. This would help me in taking up matter with Department of Telecom and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. I was aspiring for some sizeable sample so that the TRAI should not make some other excuse. However, the response from the group is encouraging. Just now I too have added my vote to the 95% bracket. What do TRAI want more? Is this majority vote not sufficient. It was enough for the Lok Sabha elections recently. more  
TRAI is wrong. Most of us are not interested in value added services, which are nothing but Value-less (Useless) services. Any such service should be activated/renewed only with clear-cut and express consent of the customer and not by deception or by misleading processes. It is unethical and if somebody is supporting it, they are not following ethical processes/practices. more
